BOTL's, if you ask I tell ya, but to cut to the chase, I bought a small slab of Cocobolo wood to be used outside, no water exposure, no sun exposure. Only Texas indirect heat.

Question: do I need to seal it, if so, what do you suggest?

And yes, I know a Navajo who will blow smoke over it.

Thanks all.

Pretty sure this is a coded request for Viagra and a prostitute.

I WISH!

Truth is I'm going to mount an outdoor ceiling fan on it, wanted something really special to look at, Cocobolo is very figurative, but very oily, hence my question. Thanks JH.

I wood tell you but.....

Seriously, whatever you use needs to be clear and non-yellowing. I'd probably just paste wax it myself.

Cheap stuff will get you pasted but the better stuff provides a deeper feeling.

You'll want something that helps keep it from drying out. Being out in the heat of TX like that, cracking may be an issue. I don't know much about furniture, but Dunlop makes a pretty good product for guitars that is made for unfinished/waxed/oiled/whatevernotpolyornitrofinished instruments. It keeps woods from drying out without really altering the aesthetics of the grain on the finish the way finishes and oils can.

Describe "slab," 1x 2x etc. The oiliness of the wood makes getting a finish on a bit tougher. Penofin makes a great line of protective oils, which with no light or sun should last longer than your fan. Your problem will be splitting from the end grain. After the oil dries, you will need to apply an end grain wax.

What does all this crap, have to do with wood, not asking about Woodie!

The piece is 2x8x8, only big enough to hold the 4" mounting plate and a bit to see the beauty. I want to enjoy seeing something natural beauty while I still can.

This is suppose to arrive this Friday, wish posting a picture wasn't such a PAIN! But I will try to do so. Thanks Matt.
