So I have the opportunity to purchase an Ewave cooler (barely used) for 120.00. I am worried that the 58 +/- 5 max temp won't be enough. I live in Houston but keep my house at 74. Should I pay a few more bucks and get something on Amazon? If so..which one? Would the high 50's hurt the cigars?

You could just by this and then get a better active controller for it. Replacing the stock controller with an aftermarket seems to extend the life a fair amount. If you don't want to go that route, and if you're good with electronics, you could possibly wire in a resistor to trick the controller to keep a higher temp.

Thanks Jason. While I am electronically savvy. I wish I had the time.

Pics please ;D

I think I'm going with a frigidaire instead. The ewave's didn't seem like that had good reviews or lasted beyond 2 years.

Anyone ever put a wineador on an appliance timer, and let it cycle to maintain temp?

I think there's some stuff written on that in the pinned section in this area. I think some thought it might be a problem sending too much power to the compressor at different cycles when you turn it on like that. But I believe most have found it to be okay. Usually the thermostat resets itself so there's a link for a device you can buy on Amazon for about 40 bucks or so with a thermostat.
