My Dad taught me as a kid and its still my favorite billiard game.

Unfortunately all the pool halls here are the ones that the ball stays in the table as soon as it drops, so games like 9 ball and cut throat are hard to play :(

Oh well I won 5 of 6 games of 8 ball on my Birthday so I can't complain. :)

I used to be a pool shark. Before turning 21 I did nothing but shoot pool. My step dad was a professional pool player for a little while. So I learned how to shoot from him. He got to play Rudolph Wanderone, aka Minnesota Fats.

I play alot of 8 ball now, never really goto pool halls anymore so everyone on home tables only seem to know 8 ball.

Straight pool used to be my game.

Too bad you didn't make it down to Fox and Hound last night. I might have been convinced to let you win a game or two so you can relive those pool shark days... :D In actuality, maybe it was a good thing you didn't make it. I suck at pool.

I used to have a Minnesota Fats cue I inherited from my dad, got broke in a bar fight :-/

And we had a nice slate table in the basement, lol my dad dug out the back yard... knocked a hole in the basement wall and had it lowered in with a crane. You can just guess how happy mom was about that. One of the things lost when they divorced and sold the house.

I can play just about any game, but on a drop-lock table, 8 ball is the best game.

We used to have a pay by the hour pool hall here in Graf with both Billiards and Snooker but the owner died and his daughter sold it to a church, so where I used to swill cheap beer and knock balls around while talking up German bar floozies is now a place where they have bible studies lol

I play pool just about everyday. I have a table at my house, but I also go to the pool hall to gamble and whatnot. I just got a new Viking cue for Christmas, and I absolutely love it. I play any game of pool, 8-ball, 9-ball, straight, golf, cutthroat, 3 ball, just about anything.

I played alot of pool about 10 yrs ago when I got divorced from my first wife. It was either that or hang out in the bar too much. I made lots of friends and then realized that they were some of the greatest pool players in NY. Lots of them were on ESPN tournaments.

That was when pool halls were still "pool halls". Now pool halls are more like "night clubs"..... young kids throwing around lots of money, loud music, food and high end bars. Lots of couples.... Not too many real good "old-time" pool halls left in NY..... You know what I mean.. Smoke filled and cans of Budweiser.....

First thing I invest in is a tournament sized table in my new house.

I had a local guy make me a "break-cue".... two new house cues cut down and tapered to match.... points are on the top and bottom with a really big tip.

Quick story: One of the guys who taught me alot about pool, and other things had a beautiful pool cue which he bought from Balabushka himself, it was wrapped in brown paper and he paid about $50 for it.

I used to shoot a lot of pool, especially in my militart days. It is funny to see how the game has changed over the years, it's like poker in many ways. Games used to be lengthy and involved and now it's all fast paced. Pool went from the staple games being straight pool(my fav) to eight ball to current fast paced nine ball. Poker has seen the same changes in the staple games from 5 card draw, to stud, and know Texa's holdem.

I still enjoy shooting pool on occassion, but don't like to sacrifice my poker time to play pool. I boought a McDermot cue when I was in the military, but it hasn't seen much action lately.

growing up in Iowa, we used to play a lot of snooker. As soon as I have a house large enough, I will have myself one of these tables.

snooker is to chess as pool is to checkers.

Yea really wanted to head up there, but lost the brakes on my car last night. Knew the caliper was hanging up was just hoping it would hold off till it warmed up a bit. Oh well guess i'll just have to make sure to make it next time.

9 ball on a 8 foot table, with my Power piston 3 Meucci cue, and a cigar of course!

Snooker is to pool as chess is to checkers...they're played on the same table, and the similarity pretty much ends there. -- wise man once said.

yeah, thats what i meant to say. once you play snooker, playing 8 or 9 ball is like a kids game.

...and they are not played on the same table.

That would get me in trouble with the owner... hmmmmm not a bad idea though.

Love the great game of pool. Have play about every other day for the past year or so and love it. Like playing 9-ball from time to time, but nothing is like straight, or 8-ball in terms of how much planning and skill are required. Playing tonight over at my friends house w/ a cigar.

I used to play Nine-Ball alot. I played at a real Pool Hall called Buddie's Place. The inside of the place was was used in several George Dickel ads. Got one of em autographed by Bud himself.

It had the coldest beer in town. One table was reserved for the "pros". I saw many $$ change hands on that table. Damn...I miss those days. :D
