Where I Have Been...not a happy story

The last three months have been a grueling, and here is why. It's also why I haven't been around. Not because I am unable, but because this situation has ruined the hobby of cigars for me. And that makes me very sad.

As you read this, red flags are going to pop up, which when it comes to these kinds of stories, hindsight is a faithful companion.

In October last year, I got a little big for my britches and purchased some very fancy cigars via a private sale with a "merchant" via Facebook.
I paid him money via PayPal F&F and after long arguments about scams, payment types, why I had to pay a "customs, stamps, and insurance" fee he told me the shipping company would be in touch. Then he blocked me.
*It's worth mentioning here that I have short term memory issues from a head injury suffered from a motorcycle crash on the race track back in July.

Long story short, the shipping company, Dynamic Package Distribution, kept sending me emails every 2-3 weeks about my customs fees to release the package and have it delivered.
Finally I bit, and asked "how much." $300, refundable upon delivery.

And then I was invested. One payment turned into a second for Delay and Holding fee, that turned into third and then another and another. Next thing I know, I was caught up in the whirlwind of wishful thinking, and a variety of other studied psychological situations where the person being scammed feels all sorts of different things.
Yes, I looked it up. And still no package delivered.

So now here I am, out a significant amount of money, that has necessitated me liquidating some valuables, specifically my professional race bike. It has strained my relationship with my wife, thank God for her and how much she loves me, and has destroyed my otherwise unflappable character.

All in the hopes that the package would be delivered and I could get even a portion of my money back. I don't even care about the cigars anymore.
I have submitted three FBI IC3 reports, and I am currently fighting with my bank over all of this.

Anyway, I thought you all should know where I have been and what's been going on. Some prayers for this to be resolved would be appreciated. I hope to find my love for cigars again and be back to sharing with you all this beautiful hobby.

Damn man. Fkn scammers are the the worst scum on earth. I wish you nothing but good luck, and although it may be expensive, I’m sure you’ve gained some wisdom out of your experience. Look at as an expensive college course that you paid for to learn…

Damn... I'm so sorry to hear what happened and what you have been going through!

I look forward to you getting back to a place where you feel like posting again.

And despite you running into a criminal, I'm hopeful that you can think back and see that a great majority of the REAL cigar community is made up honest, hardworking, and generous men and women.

We're always around and available via PM if you ever want to chat.

See you soon!

You need to out the rat fk so nobody else gets robbed.

That fkn scumbag that burnt you, is exactly why newbies get hazed and questioned on their intentions here.

PS. I've been swindled. You're not alone. Don't be to hard on yourself.

Fixed it @smellysell

Hope you get this resolved. Scammers are out there for sure. Many here have been duped at least once. Find inner peace and don’t let this sour your love for the hobby

Sorry to hear that. I had someone able to open accounts in my name for thousands of dollars, recently. I’m still trying to clear my name. There will always be bad actors out there, but remember there will always be good as well!

I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'd be happy to oblige your request for prayers. I hope you feel better soon and you rekindle your love for cigars.

Sorry to hear about what you have been going through, it takes a strong person to open up and talk about these things.

I'm happy to hear that your wife was by your side during this, that speaks volumes about your relationship and personality.

Sorry to hear about this. I assume that some (if not all) of the cigars you ordered were Cubans and the waters are ripe with scammers for anyone looking for a quality Cuban cigar. Even those of us with good sense can be easily scammed. I've been on the hunt lately and this may be enough of a cautionary tale to lead me to stock up on new world cigars that are available from reputable retailers instead. Hang in there and keep smoking!

Sorry you're having to deal with this, it's unfortunate. Just glad you have a supportive wife, on your side.

Michael is right. I know it didn't happen here on CP, but warning others is the right thing to do. The "merchant" needs to be outed.

Thanks for the love, CP Fam.

Still fighting this with USAA...I have hope...but it's been hellacious.

Good news is, I traded some fancy CC to a good friend who is helping me grab the newest LE release. The 10th Anniversary Escurio, which I was super bummed when it dropped because I knew I couldn't even remotely consider getting a box.

Anyone, keep the prayers rolling and thanks again.

The Merchant is the issue...it's the shipping company.

Dynamic Package (Pakage) Distribution is the real Scammer.
