still have to charge the humidor? i have ordered a humi and would like to get some beads for it. but i have searched high and low for this answer. do you still have to charge the humidor? should i use 50/50 or distilled water only? my current humi is a small 50 stick. i placed a clean sponge dampened with distilled water on plastic and left it in the humi for a few days to charge the cedar. turns out my hygrometer was off, even though i did the salt test on it. i have a scientific quality hygrometer from work and gives accuate readouts in 5 sec, so i know that is calibrated and accurate. need some guidence here, where can i get a decent deal on beads as well? my new humi is good for 100 sticks and i don;t wanna screw this one up. thanks guys for bearing with the noobness...take care...Rob

It does not hurt to still charge a new humidor if you are going to use beads. Getting humidity into the wood is important no matter what humidification source you choose. As far as where to get beads, www.heartfeltindustries.com

Yea, what Viper said.

You want to season your Humidor before you put in your cigars. It will help the humidifier do it's job also, if the humidor is seasoned.

If you are planning to use beads, then charging with plain distilled water is good.

A small bowl or shot glass inside the box is a good way to allow the cedar to absorb moisture.

Once the humi is up to the RH you want, then the bowl can come out and the beads will do the rest. :p

thanks man, it is a good read, thanks Viper for that btw. i musta been a little too buzzed, now that i read it again and see my question is answered there. gonna order some beads from him for the new humi.
