What's your favourite cigar to take when golfing?

I joined the Lions Club last year and we are hosting a golf tournament to raise money to buy a companion dog for an autistic child. Some of my fellow Lions enjoy a good cigar and my local cigar retailer is sponsoring the putting green. It promises to be a great time.

I am just wondering what people like to take out on the round? Do you go for one stick, long lasting, or do you like the short walks? I overheard one BOTL warm against sticks that may be a bit more fragile than others, (wrappers that might not wear and tear nicely after being set down and picked up over and over).

My self, I am thinking of a good 60 ring gauge cigar, maybe a nub or similar. Naturally there will be lovely ladies roaming the course with cold beer. Gotta keep that in mind (The beer ... and the lovelies too).

My one and only favorite...a RyJ Churchill Tubos (CC version)...a little bit of Heaven on The Fairways!

Give it a punch at home, throw it back in the can and stick it in my glove pocket with a jet lighter....the rule has always been that I can't light it until I birdie a hole.

Do you guys think it's still OK to smoke after 6 years in my bag?

I have a feeling you're being modest.

Due to the variety of weather conditions you encounter on a golf course, I look for a cigar that has a durable wrapper. Also, the bulk of my attention is on my game, as well as interacting with my playing partners. Therefore, I keep what I define as my "really good" cigars for times when the cigar will be the focus of my attention.

That said, my standard cigars for the golf course is an AF Double Chateau Fuente (SG) for the front nine, and an LGC Churchill (M) for the back nine. Each cigar lasts nine holes, burn great, deliver tons of flavor and stays lit.

Hrmm.. I usually save my cigar for the club house. Perhaps its just me, but I don't enjoy the cigar nor the game as much if I am doing both. My staple for post golfing activities is a RP Edge or 601 Blue. To me they are well rounded sticks that I can share with friends, and I usually bring a few to share.

I usually take a medium priced smoke with me. I can't bring myself to smoke a premium on the course with the clods I normally play with. I'll hit my shot and turn around to see my cigar flattened with spike marks in it. Never again.

I had a BGM and a couple RACF's over this weekend...on the course.

I don't tend to change my smoking choice when golfing.

Why ruin a nice walk with a bad smoke! ;)

I smoked an 8-5-8 the other day on the course. I try not to smoke anything too expensive as I've sacrificed too many smokes to cart tires and puddles.

If someone offers me a nice smoke or it's a special occasion that's another story.

I usually go for the lower end stuff since I forget my cigars VERY often. Ghurka's and 5-vegas cigars that I usually buy to hand out to non-cigar smoking friends are the main smokes I've had so far. And they are robustos or shorter so when I do leave them behind, there was never that much left to begin with.

At my bachelor party last month...I cut a cigar and promptly forgot that I had put it on top of the cart as I drove away.

While I do sometimes go for a super premium stick on the golf course that really depends on the company I am keeping or the nature of the event. For an ordinary round of golf on an ordinary day with ordinary company I like to go with a JR Ultimate Maduro No. 1. It's big cigar with a tough wrapper that seems to burn quite well even when put down for several minutes while I take four or five swings in a bunker. Now, when I get out with any of the CP elite (I will defeat you this year, Whopper :D ), I usually go more for some rare-ish Fuente or higher end Cuban selections.

I usually go for a serviceable and available smoke, but not top shelf.
Something like a CAO Brazilia, RP OWR X-outs, Punch Rare Corojo,
RyJ Reserve maduro, etc. Depends on what is on hand.

I have several different cigar holders that clip to the cart or my bag,
so leaving smokes behind is not a problem, anymore.

Chemyst

I don't differentiate cigars based on being on the golf course or not unless it's an unusually windy day. I used to smoke cheap cigars on the course but now I smoke what I like. After thinking about it I came to the conclusion I bought them all to smoke and since I enjoy smoking on the course I might as well smoke a good cigar, or 2.

Last year it was signature maduro's. This year it is Padron 2000's maduro's. I normally go through a box a year. I don't light up until I get my first par. If I had to wait for birdies, I would never run out of sticks. :D

I try to smoke something inexpensive when on the course, off the course (clubhouse) is a different story. I find that if I smoke a top shelf stick on the course, then I don't concentrate as much, and my game goes to hell. My current stick is a Famous Smoke Nic (Toro), I found that it's a good smoke that I don't have to think about when on the course.

I like the Punch London Club. Cheap enough that there's no loss if it goes bad and it's a good little cigar.

I am with you...I like the famous smoke Nic habanos. Inexpensive yet still an ok smoke. Usually the wind is always high here, so I do not get to enjoy a favorite while swinging the clubs. But I am in the trees so often, that you hardly notice!

I am surprised that alot of you guys don't switch up your habits while on the course.

I actually don't like to smoke when I play golf. Before and after, certainly, but not during the round. Its funny because I first started smoking cigars when I was a kid playing golf at our municipal course. My dad would drop me and a buddy off and leave us there until got dark or started raining. We would swipe a Garcia y Vega or one of the other cheepies they kept on the counter of the pro shop. We'd wait until we were on the furthest hole from the clubhouse and light up thinking we were big shots. Now, I'd rather just play golf and save the stogies for later.

I like a Comacho, Olivia V, AF. All middle of the road smokes, price wise.- Got to be Churchills.

I can go through 4-5 with slow play and a bad game.
