I was reading the thread. What was your latest purchase?

That was easy for me to remember. Cohiba Toro Tubo.

Now for the hard one.

What was your first smoke? (if you want to throw in a story about it, go right ahead)

My first one was a Partagas Robusto in 1994. I was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas at the time as a medic. I had picked up a Cigar Aficionado at the shoppette. While reading it, I became interested in trying out cigars.

I am glad I picked one that was awesome. Otherwise, I would be posting on the Star Trek board. :D

My first cigar was a Montesino Gran Corona back in 1996.

My now ex-wife was going to school around 40 miles away from where we lived in Texas. Got into her car one day and was like "what the hell, it smells like smoke in here." Seems she was smoking Swisher Sweets on her way home to pass the time. The next time we were in San Antonio, she stopped in the Humidor in North Star Mall and bought a hand-full of real cigars. I remember the Montesino, a Puros Indios No. 1 Especial, a Te-Amos Maduro Toro, and something else that I can't remember at the moment. Well, to say the least, I thought she was crazy. I spouted things like, "I'll never smoke anything.", and "I can't believe you are smoking those things." My parents had smoked cigarettes for as long as I could remember and my mom had recently died of cancer. So, I was pretty against smoking. Well, time went on and finally I gave in. I sat in my backyard and lit up that Montesino. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

From then on, I started buying cigars, smoking cigars, reading about cigars, going to cigar-related events, etc. Sort of created a monster.

The first cigar I consciously sought out and bought was an ISOM Partagas Lusitania. I was headed to France and I looked up some list of the World's 100 greatest cigars or something, and picked the highest rated, most impressive looking ISOM (cos I can get non-ISOMs here).

Not sure what motivated me. I smoked it after I got back in front of my dorm. Didn't enjoy it much at all. Felt kinda sick.

I did smoke a Cuban (a Montecristo or H.Upmann Tubo of some kind) at the top of the Eiffel Tower with my friends, but that wasn't my choice or purchase.

Anyway several years went by and I broke my elbow and couldn't work out. I decided to take up smoking cigars, and like everything else I do I researched the hell out of it. This was/is by far the most informative board out there IMO and that's when it REALLY began.

I forget what the first cigars I ordered after joining here were, but a bundle of Mr. B's from JR's B&M store in DC was one of the first. And I still maintain they're great cigars for the price.

Macanudo Portofino Tubos

I thought it kicked a$$. What the hell did I know  :p

My first was a Montecristo churchill size ISOM.

When I was 13 my Pop recieved a box of Monte ISOMs as a business gift (works in oil and they do crazy stuff like that all the time). Anyways he didn't smoke, so they were just sitting in the cabinet.

I said what the hell and grabbed one, chopped off the cap with a clever and went behind the barn with a friend to smoke it up. It made us sick as dogs, we inhaled the smoke and smoked it really quickly. I threw up and didn't eat that night.

The sticks are still in my parent's cabinet.

A Romey y Julieta ISOM (can't remember the vitola). My brother had one when he came to visit me while I made the mistake of living in WA for a short while. I'd never smoked cigs or anything, and always vowed never to smoke (personal choice). So I figured, it was a special occaision since I hadn't seen my bro in a long time, and if I was going to try and smoke something why not a cuban cigar.

I hated it. Throat felts all nasty, the tasted sucked, and I accidently inhaled a few times. From then I moved on to Swisher Sweets for a short bit :p
Then found Macanudos which at the time I thought were great

Macanudo gold Label ,or what ever they were then, 1987.

Was a cool looking High School Freshman camping at at the old "haunted house" at the edge if town. Chased it with a luke warm Busch a big brother got for us, my regular licquor store that sold to me at 15 yrs. old was popped by the state so he was plan C. He REALLY did us right, $30 for two half cases, he really looked out for us. Probably bought a quarter with the rest, the POS

Well, i guess i am in the smae boat as many when I say Swisher-Sweet; but let's not count that.

My first real cigar was a Te-Amo that my Uncle got me for my High School graduation in 1997. My father, uncle and a few friends all had one; we had no idea what we were doing, but it seemed like a cool idea.

I always played sports until I got to college, so until then smoking cigars seemed like a bad idea. Once I got to school, I picked up the hobby for good. I started with Garcia y Vegas and quickly moved on to Macanudo's, La Unicas, Hoyos and Lar Tetens. I do remember that my first box purchase was a box of Baccarat Pyrimides. :p

I was kinda stuck in a holding pattern till a year and a half ago when I met cigardawg....man has it been downhill since then!

Always glad to provide a little well-placed and well-timed corruption.

Garcia y Vega... First real cigar was an RyJ that one of my roommates gave me my freshman year.

well.... obviously a swisher sweet...but after that, I bought a drew estate Kuba Kuba after reading that they were hard to get in a magazine...maybe GQ? can't remember. But my first non flavored smoke purchase was a PAN.

The first real cigar that I actually remember enjoying would me a '98 Trinidad Fundadores that was gifted to me by a coworker in 1999. I knew very very little about cigars and he would teach me a little here and there. I was just coming out of a divorce and and was in the process of purchasing a new home. It was July 15th, the house papers were final and the divorce was final. I sat in the backyard of "my" home with a very close friend who pulled me through the worst time of my life and had a combination divorce bonfire and celebration cigar, the '98 Trinidad. That was the best cigar I have ever had!!

AF Hemingway Classic Natural when I was in college.

I believe there is another thread about this from a while back.

You gotta be kidding me, right?

Do I have to go ALL the way back to when I stole Munnimakers from my father when I was 12?
Or back to high school when we used to buy boxes of White Owl Minatures?
Or back to college when we'd buy whatever they had at the gas station? (I honestly could not tell you what brand they were).
Or my first hand rolled cigar? (That was back in 1992 and I honestly cannot remember what it was because I bought a variety of sticks at "The Tobacconist" in the Hartford Civic Center when the first issue of cA came out). I think one of those I bought was a Macanudo Rothchild?
Or my first Havana? That would be sometime in the early 1990's. Don't know the exact date or year but I know the cigar was a Montecristo #1.

I dunno if I answered your question :p

My first Cigar was a PHILLIES BLUNT

My first real cigar was a Punch of some sort..packed in a tube and it was great!!!
I had a friend who owned a "Head Shop" here in Vegas with a pretty decent humidor and he gave me a couple for my birthday in 1997...three weeks later I bought a humidor and the rest is history

heh.
when I was about 13 or 14, my bother and I stole a couple cigars at disneyland. we walked around the park puffing on those things like we knew what the hell we were doing.
I've got no idea what it was we were smoking, though.

that was, of course, back when it was legal to smoke in public in CA.

my first real cigar experience was with a dominican monte #2 a mere couple years ago.
I hardly consider the occasional swishers I blazed before that as being "cigar" experiences. ;)

Swisher Sweet. Used to by a 5-pack and smoke them playing poker in my friend's garage back in college. Next started buying Macanudos. Hadn't had a cigar in years before meeting Scot (cigardawg). Can you see a trend here? Since meeting Scot, smoking regularly with him and Patrick, and joining CP I have had to get a bigger humidor (and need to add a layer to my Barrister next month).

Search is a nice tool....

El Producto baby! Me and George Burns! They were, and still are the best!

The first cigars I remember buying at age 12 or 13 back in the 60's (from the ledgenary all night 7-11) had a wood tip on them. Much cooler then the ones with plastic tips. No idea what they were now. First Cuban was when I was in Cuba in the 70's.

the first one I remember (besides swishers ect..)
is a Macanudo

Bill
