What makes a cigar great?

I must preface this by saying that the cigar I chose to share with my close buddy last night is already a great cigar, but I think that most of the time what makes a cigar great is the company you share it with.

I have a friend who is really staring to get into smoking cigars and Ive slowly been stocking him up with some good ones. Last night he had my wife and I over to his house to share some bbq and good times with him and his wife. We sat around the fire and shared some great laughs and stories and a few cold beers. As the fire was kicking in to a nice steady blaze, I took out two Sharks that I had been waiting for the right time to share with him. He had never heard of or seen one before and I spared giving him any sort of description of it or explanation because I just wanted the cigar to speak for itself. We both went through our pre light and toasting routines and soon the air was filled with the sweet smoke that only an Anejo can produce. We kicked back on our lawn recliners and just sat there enjoying one of the more fantastic cigars produced in this world.

Now as I said, the cigar itself is a great one, but something about sitting there, just the 4 of us around the fire, our dogs running around the yard chasing each other, and the great laughs and stories we shared made the experience one of the finer ones I've had while smoking a great cigar.

He thanked me profusely at the end of the night for letting him try such a great smoke. I took out two more and told him to stash them in his humi for the next time I was over. His face light up and I knew that I had hooked another great guy into the community of cigar smokers.

A big thank you goes out to this amazing place for getting me into this hobby and to a place where I am able to share what I know with others and share some fine smokes with them too.

No time like the present to smoke the good ones, guys!

i can agree with you 100%, unless the cigar really sucks. But, at least you have a great buddy to talk shit with about the crappy cigar, and that makes for good times as well.

Got my smoking buddy coming up next weekend, we sit around drinking ( scotch or beer ) and talking about all sorts of crap. Sometimes we have a shitty cigar but mainly good ones, the time spent together is really enjoyed because we dont see much of each other ( he lives 2 hours away ) just getting together makes the time worth the wait.

Power Huffer's are a group of smokers that can "knock' out a Churchill in LESS than an hour, a Robusto in half that time and a Corona in mere minutes!!!
Some smokers like to enjoy their smoke, letting it 'rest' between puffs - - - we say "TOO LONG" lets get this one done and on to the next one!!!

This is very true.

In my job, I have to be a bit of a social butterfly, between me and my wife we get invited to lots of parties and cook-outs and such for the people we support at NATO. A fair number of them are cigar smokers.
I always show up with my 15 stick travel humi in hand, and when the look through it they are alywas scared to take anything because I like to bring some of my better sticks.

Then the smile on their face when I tell them "I don't own a cigar I will not give away" is always a highlight of the evening.
