Looking for a bargain cigar and according to cigar aficionado these are the best.

C.A.O. La Traviata Divino
Nicaragua • 5" by 50 • $4.95

La Aroma de Cuba Robusto
Nicaragua • 5" by 54 • $5.25

Vallejuelo Robusto Gordo
Dom. Rep. • 5" by 54 • $5.00

I was wondering what you guys think of them. What do they taste like (flavors)? Are the mild smooth or full bodied and powerful? How would they compare to something like a rocky patel 15th anniversary or an Ashton vsg?

Thanks guys.

I haven't smoked any of the three, but trying different cigars is half the fun (variety is the spice of life). Many do not hold CA in high regard, as many of their ratings seem to go along with how much advertisement the brand has in the magazine.

If you try them and like them, and the price is in your range then great. If not go on to others, you will find what you like. If no one has said so, try the newbie trade, great selection for a little cash.

BTW, I have been looking for a low cost alternative to VSGs and Padrons and have yet to find anything close. JMHO

Taste is subjective.

Try a few things out and tell us what you like.

Happy hunting!

Like stated above, see if you can get atleast 2 singles of each. The only way to know if they are good is by smoking them.

Vallejuelo might surprise you. An excellent cigar. That blender ( Big Mo ) has the potential to become a serious player. Of course, all things come down to an individuals tastes, and preferences, but I've tasted some samples of lines he has, or is working on, and he is someone I take seriously.

The CAO is really decent.

I haven't smoked the LADC by Pepin. That said, when Pepin first started the Holt's / Ashton Blends, I was less than impressed. Now that he is more vertically integrated, I need to revisit to see if there have been any improvements. For 5 bucks a Stick, Padron is an awful hard act to follow; especially if you want to consider consistency.

I really like the La Aroma de Cubas.

The other two don't do much for me, but your tastes may be way different than mine.

I really like the La Aroma de Cuba's also. The CAO is good, but not something that I would pick over other options. I hav never tried the third one though.

Somewhere in the past year or two I tried a CAO la Traviata.
It did not distinguish itself enough from other CAOs, imho.
A serviceable smoke, however.

I find the Olivas to be an inexpensive replacement for Padron.
They taste almost the same to me.

I had hoped that the San Cristobal Seleccion del Sol would be
a less expensive alternative to a VSG, but no joy!

Chemyst

+1 to everything said above.

I have smoked all three of the cigars your listed, but have not smoked the Rocky. As for the Ashton, none of the ones you listed are anything like it.

My (tastes vary between people) order of preference of the three:

La Aroma
La Traviata
Vallejuelo

Edit: Mild to medium. Vall's can be more medium to full, and sometimes have a good kick.
