What do they mean by Varnished?

Knowing what this means in wood working world I'm not so sure I would like it on my gars. ???

It means the BOX is varnished. i.e. it has a "sheen" to it as opposed to being unfinished. i.g. Cohiba boxes are varnished as are Partagas 8-9-8 boxes (some of them). Those are the only varnished boxes I know of in current production but there may be more.

I believe the 8-9-8 Unvarnished boxes are discontinued and thus hard to come by.

I have edited my previous post to reflect that 8-5-8 was a typo. Should have read 8-9-8

8-9-8 refers to the layered placement of the cigars in the box. The Partagas varnished 8-9-8 is a completely different cigar, in size and blend, than the unvarnished 8-9-8. It is just the placement of the cigars in three row, bottom row of 8, middle row of 9 and top row of 8.

There are several Havanas in "varnished" boxes. All Cohibas, some Partagas, Upmann Sir Winstons and a few others I can't think of right now.

i had a friend ask me what the odor was that was coming from his humi. It turned out, he had 2 varnished boxes inside. he took them out, and the stink smell left. So, i personally don't put anything varnished inside my humi from now on.

I actually varnished a couple of large cedar boxes to store various single ISOMS. No smell. But now varnished boxes from another country.

If I am not mistaken, LGC Medaille d'Or boxes are varnished also. At least, mine are.
