What can be done to keep temp down in humi

In the summer here in AZ, it gets to 105 regularly. The A/C runs constantly and I usually can't get my humi below 78 to 80 degrees. The last thing I want to have happen is the disaster seen on the other thread. I would loose hundreds of cigars. What would you recommend?

Hello,
I live in CA where it also gets hot. My solution was a wine cooler. It works great in the summer time and in the winter time I just unplug it and continue to use it as a humidor.

Upgrade your A/C or get it checked it should get your house below 78. Or you can insulate your house to help with the temp. Wine cooler or put a window air close by are some cheaper options tho.

Do you have a basement? Usually cooler down there. Sounds like wine cooler is a good option for you as well. I would definitely keep the cigars away from the 70% rh mark as well. 65% beads will be safer. Good luck

Mr. Minister,

I agree with two solutions.

Either keep it in the coolest room of the house, or make the jump to a wine refrigerator so that you can keep "all things constant"/

It will save you a lot of headache in the end.

Bill, get a wine cooler. Just make sure it is thermoelectric (does not use a conventional compressor). I have 12 bottle and 28 bottle wine coolers and they work perfectly for Tucson. I haven't had a problem since going to them. With your abilities, you might want to see if you can build a nice cabinet humidor and add a couple of Peltier thermoelectric coolers to them.

Hey there bud, someone here built a cabinet with a different type of thermo unit, I can't remember who it was but you may be able to find it. As I recall, it was a great way to cool a cabinet and was some sort of thermoelectric unit. I'll poke around and see what I can find.

I appologize. I should have been more specific. I have a 500 ct at work that stays fine. This is my desk top at home i have a problem with. I don't have any place to put a wine cooler either. I thought about freezing one small container of beads and leaving one in a liquid state to maintain humidity. I don't know if this would work or not. Anyone ever try this?

never tried that.

I know (however) that vinotemp makes a nice small 75 count cooled humidor.

they do cost about 200.00 bucks which is rather steep for a little guy.

If your A/C runs constantly, its either WAY undersized or needs a tune up. Insulation is another big factor. If you close your shades on your windows during the day, that will help keep some heat out of the house also.

Ahhhh ...... What I used to do with overflow wine is to put it in the bottom of a closet someplace in the middle of the house, no windows, and dark. Granted, CA summer cools down at night and we start from zero again the next day.

How about putting the whole thing in a cooler with ice packs during the day, or take the cigars out, bag them and put them in a iced cooler. You can do this as your summer routine.
