What an Honor

Some of you know that I study and teach Taekwondo. Those of you who didnt know, now you know. Yesterday I recieved some very exciting news from my Sabumnim (Master). He has nominated me for promotion to 5th Dan black belt! I was shocked and honored that he believed I was ready. I will be testing on October 31st in front of my mentor Grandmaster Frank Nogeura. After 17+ yars of training I can honestly say that its not about the belt but I am humbled to even be considered for this!!
 
Congrats Nash! That is definitely an honour... a big one! It'd be wise to stay on your good side ;)

Right on, well done. Just got my Nidan in Mugai Ryu (Koryu Japanese Swordsmanship) on Saturday. It felt pretty good. Remember, the more you know, the more you need to learn. ;)
 
One nice thing about teaching is that you learn an awful lot while doing it. I think I learned almost as much in the 2 years I taught martial arts professionally as I did in the 12 leading up to that point. I'm happy just being a student again. I didn't like the road my old Dojo was taking so it added a lot of stress that diminshed my enjoyment of the art.

Best of luck on your test, but it is very likely that if you've made it this far, you've pretty much already passed.
 
Congrats! Will you be taping this. That is something I would love to see.

Any affiliation with the Nogeura brothers in MMA?
 
Congratulations! It's been so long since I took Martial Arts, I can't remember what my last belt was. :laugh: :whistling: Way to go brother!

No relation B. Still I wouldnt mess with him. I have known GM Nogeura for a very long time and evertime he speaks it give me goosebumps. The depth of knwledge and the humility to be able to grab a white belt and sweat it out with the teen class (the man is 72) is truly amazing. I only hope that when I mature (or ripen as GM says) I will be able to carry myself in the same manner as him.



Monk i dont think I will be able to video but there should be plenty of pictures.
 
Ok update...

Just finished part 2 of my test. Man am I exhausted. Three hours of blood and sweat. Aside from my own test I am very proud of all the others who tested for their black belts and 2nd degree black belts. I will probably have some video of the breaking up on youtube later today. When I put it up I will link it here. Now it is time to sit down and relax. Going to fire up the Franks I recieved from a very generous BoTL here with a buddy. Enjoy Halloween guys smoke something good.
