water pillows

I'm using a water pillow for travel. I'll put it in a plastic bag with a few cigars, usually just for a weekend trip or a little longer. I hadn't used it for a while and noticed a sticky gel on the outside of the pillow and coating the protective plastic bag I keep it in and away from my cigars.

I recharged but not much luck, still sticky.

Any idea if these need replacing and when?

I've got Viper's beads in my humi at home.

They are single use items. I have remoistened once before, but just once and just a little bit. How long/how many recharges do you get out of each pillow?

just recharged the one time. i had lost it for a while, then found it all sticky so I tried to recharge it. It held for a while but got sticky again, so I think I'll just order some new ones.

any suggestions for just a quick road trip without a lot of fuss?

A quick, simple and cheap fix would be to place a small amount of your existing beads into a small tupperware/rubbermaid container. It's actually a very effective method. Heck, beads in a large freezer bag would work as well.

Them water pillows are a buck a piece. How many sticks are you planning to take with you and how long is the duration of your trips? Have you considered an Otterbox CigarCaddy? I have a few of them, of various sizes. I rarely leave my home without a 2-count or 5-count with me. They are nearly indestructible and will hold humidity on their own quite well for several days.

Dude, when your pillows get sticky, you need to run 'em through the wash....

OK, all BS aside, get some beads in the nice tubes Viper has and use them in your travel humi's....much better answer. Inexpensive and with some care, should be lifetime investments....

I would suggest using Viper's humidity sheet that functions the same as the beads. I bought this to use in my travel humidor before a European vacation and a moist paper towel in a baggie to charge it.

I purchased the 9.5" X 9.5" sheet which fits nicely in the pocket in the lid. Did a nice job of keeping the cigars ready to smoke. Then when I am at home it goes back in the humidor, ready to use for the next trip.

Water pillows are single use items. With repeated recharging they can leak or worse, develop mold or mildew. When they start to dry out, chuck 'em.

Depending on how long your trip is, they should be ok over a weekend.
