Vinotemp replacement for walk-in humidor failure

Well, the walk-in closet conversion didn't work out. Cooling the room down seemed to be a hurdle I could not cross. It would have been easy if I owned the property, but it's kind of hard to justify adding A/C vents or cutting large holes in walls in a rental property.

However, I did find a decent compromise. I purchased some Vinotemp wine coolers and built a rack for them. I have ordered an assortment of drawers and shelves from "Mtmouse" to complete the setup. The anticipation is killing me......

That is great set-up and very nice looking indeed!!!
I would love to see pictures with the trays and filled!!

Thanks Rich

I will be working to fill it up as soon as I get the shipment from Mtmouse. I will add pictures as soon as I get them.

HOLY CRAP! Do you think you will have enough room to store you sticks? Here i've been working on my wife to allow me to do one. ??? Great set-up by the way, and yes, please post more pics as it comes along.

Those look really nice, I'm tempted to get one since it's temp controlled. I can't wait to see the pics.

Yeah, either I have the most understanding wife or we haven't been married long enough for her to start saying NO.

Until that photo I was happy with my one vinotemp. BTW I also had MTMOUSE make me some shelves and drawers. They work and fit perfectly. It was seasoned in about 3 days and I got it filled up yesterday. Its so much more relieving not having too worry about temp.

Nice looking array!

I'm dying to see your first month's electric bill.

And don't forget to leave the closet door open; the heat coming off those babies is going to be impressive.

Thanks.

Yeah, it stays cool in the closet with the door open, but it starts getting kind of warm when closed. It's a guest bedroom, so it will stay open all the time.

Just a question...For the amount you spent on this setup could you not have purchased a temp controlled cabinet from one of the usual makers? It seems like that would have been simpler, but perhaps I'm missing something.

I'm not being critical, that's quite an impressive setup and we're all free to do what we please. I'm just curious if the thought crossed your mind and why it was dismissed if it was.

:)

Actually, I did consider a cabinet, but I decided not to for several reasons. The first is we will be moving soon and I didn't want to risk messing up a beautiful cabinet. Additionally, I thought it would be easier to fit the coolers in the closet and easier to keep the cigars safe in a move. I know the thermo units are reliable, but the chances of all five going bad is slim to none. Being in south Florida, I could stuff five coolers into four until I could replace one.

When we finally move into our house, I plan to have a real walk-in humidor.

Here's a couple pictures of my actual stash.

I'll be glad when I get my new drawers, so I can sort some singles out. I have this tray and five more boxes of assorted sticks.

Whatever works for you. :)

Good luck with your project. I hope you have success.
