While visiting a friend here in Miami, she showed me the Vilar Cigar shop in the Grove. It is 1 block south of Sunset Ave by the mall. A cozy little shop with a nice sitting area and decent selection of cigars. They had La Aurora, Leon Jimenez, Padron, Fuente, HdM, Fonseca, Opus, PAM and 1926. I bought a HdM Dark Sumatra Expresso and a a Joya de Nic Celebracion robusto. The prices were right as I walked with both for $9. The 2 Opus they had were selling for $9.25 and $11.50 which seemed like a fair price. For you Miami guys, worth checking out while your lady shops in the Mall 1 block away.

Actually, I've never heard of that place. Sounds interesting though and I'll have to check it out. Almost sounds as if it's more South Miami than the Grove. That's an area that's too far down S. Dixie for my tastes with traffic being what it is in that area, and me living on South Beach.

There was once this cigar shop that used to be in the Sunset Place mall itself, lower level - near the Virgin Records Megastore. From what I recollect, though it was a place I went only once, it was a place that was severely overpriced. The guy who ran it seemed to have a way too holier-than-thou attitude as well. I sense that is why his place is no longer there. Anyone else recall that?

At any rate, thanks for the info!

The lady I am dating lives in The Grove, so while she was at work, I went to Sunset Place looking for a humidor. I was kind of surprised when I didn't find one. But I remembered seeing the one right next to the Pizza joint in the strip mall. It is maybe 2 blocks from the mall. I can see why a humidor would have to be over priced to have a place in the mall. I also took a look in the humidor in Sawgrass. Decent selection of cigar but again, a little over priced.

I know exactly what you're talking about, but the back room was gorgeous.

I was thinking about it, but the only free time I had planned was during the day. I figured you Miami guys would be working during the day. Next time I come up I will shoot you all an email.

That place in Sunset was called Havana Republic. I would go in there to pick up my RyJs since those were a pretty fair price. You're right about being generally overpriced and a little stuck up though. I have to agree with Ric when he said it was a gorgeous place...it was definitely the nicest shop I've ever been.

It sounds like the place Emo is talking about is near Sunset place.

I agree with you both (ric and gator)...that place in Sunset was gorgeous. I remember the first few times I walked by it, I thought it was some type of museum-artifact type place, rather than a cigar shop. But, after I went there that one time, I vowed never to return. Just couldn't get over the other issues.

That's right - Havana Republic. I recall the name now that you reminded me gator. :D ;) Looking forward to checking out the place emo's talking about.
