Vigilant Humidor On Ebay

Nice looking humi, and a great price, but it does not seem to have terribly much box storage capacity. Lots of room for loose cigars, though!

The nice thing about this line is it supplies heat, something this New Englander finds appealing. Josh, does your new one generate heat if it gets too cold?

ha! free shipping... wanna bet that would not include Alaska?

and I agree... does not seem to be alot of room for box storage.

Interesting. no, mine does not generate heat. Then again, I see no reason to want it to. The absolute coldest my house would EVER get, even if I went on an extended vacation in the dead of winter, would be in the low 50's or so, still well within a range I am comfortable with my cigars being.

I switched to a pellet stove to heat my home a few years back, so winter storage is becoming quite a challenge.. I can't leave the humidor in the basement anymore my central heating doesn't run all winter. I absolutely cant put it anywhere near the stove. So I end up packing everything in 2 to 3 100 qt coolers with a bunch of beads and put them on my third floor.. The stove runs off a thermostat so its constantly shutting down and starting up by it self. I entertained the idea of buying a 100 box MTX Climate controlled Aristocrat but with 5 extra cooling units to combat the stove it priced itself out of my budget.
So the idea of heating a cabinet to 65 deg and keeping it in my basement where the temp will get into the low 40's isn't that far of a stretch.
Frank

Wow. Low 40's...you're right, that would be a different challenge.
I have never battled with temps that low, nor do I know what (if any) detrimental affect that would or could have on cigars.
But an MX with 5 coling units...yeah...that would stretch a budget all right!
What about finding an area oin the house (perhpas a closet far from the stove?) where temps do not get too high (or low?)

That's the problem I have a midsized 25 -30 box cabinet running a Cigar Oasis II I had it up in my spare bedroom. I had no problem with it being there. With the COII you have a fan that never shuts down well this slight hum bothered my wife, so early spring I couldn't stand any more I moved everything into the basement knowing its the coolest part of the house. Now winter is fast approaching I have no desire to hear the incessant squawking about this fan. So everything is going into the coolers. Either of the spare Bedrooms on the Third Floor are the best option IMO for winter. 40 deg is too cold.
Its a small price to pay for a winter gas bill of $250.00 My normal heating bill in winter was 350.00+ per month w/ natural gas. I burn 3 tons of pellets which cost me 700.00 delivered. $116 per month for 6 months of heating. Not including the stove and installation.

The silver lining is, since I've been using the stove its helped with my cigar budget :D
Although it a pain to deal with high temps and low humidity with enough of Vipers Beads and a good sealing cooler I should be fine..
What would be ideal is a smoking club with lockers for rent, but I don't know of any in the area.

Rumor has it, you broke ground last month.

OK OK - I'll print the paperwork and we can start looking for a location!!!

In the meantime, you can always store your smokes at my house! :whistling:

Gary, I know we have said this before, but let's actually discuss this tonight. That is, if you are free for a smoke. I am dog-less, so your lawn (and shoes) are safe for the evening! (even though I know she is always welcome...and she loves you SO much...people, if you have never seen a 25 pound pup jumping up on someone Gary's size in a pee-spraying orgy of excitement...it's really friggen funny. Unless you happen to be Gary!)
