The Vegas Robania line is unfortunately a hit and miss cigar when it comes to construction and overall quality. You really have to pay attention to what year it was rolled (and have had enough to know the good years) and grab as many in that year as you can. Believe me, when these are good they are hard to beat.

Sadly, last night I finished the last of the 2005 Unicos' that I was aging. 2005 has proven to be my favourite year.

Prelight aromas reminded me of a mix of coriander and straw. Interesting, but certainly not appetising. As soon as I lit up, the complex, deep aroma assaulted my olfactories in an enticing way. This one wanted to be smoked.

The first 1/3 of the cigar gave my mind a workout trying to pinpoint every nuance of flavour, because this had it all. At its core, was a rich, dry and creamy cedar profile, accented by notes of coriander, herbal tea, cocoa powder, sweet cherry, golden syrup, pepper, walnut and almonds. If you can imagine: it was like all the flavours were gathered and tied up in silk. It was so smooth, yet so interesting.

As the smoke progressed past the second 1/3, all the flavours seemed to caramalise, giving a distinct sweet, charred glaze to the profile that worked rather well, and a distinct cinnamon top note was uncovered as well. The silk became velvet.

After a flame-purge (trust me, this thing works wonders), the smoke's flavours cleaned up a bit, but past the band a caramel-corn flavour took over, and it was time to put this majestic cigar down. It had a flaky pepper-grey ash and needed the customary Robania touch up, but the flavours were a brilliant journey (sorry about the lack of pics again).

When it comes down to it, this thing has a bit of everything you like from other cigars, rolled into one masterpiece. It is certainly a shame that the quality fluctuates wildly(as with most Cubans unfortunately), or this stick would be getting a 10 from me. No flaws... when it is done right.

Excellent review! I'm supprised that there hasn't been a more favourable response to the 2005 crop in general (I've heard people say it was a decent year, but I think it's on par with 06' IMO). This was a great year for a fantastic cigar!

Nice review! I've had the 05 and 06 and the 05 was much better. But the 06 was a very good cigar - just not outstanding.
