I stopped by my local smoke shop today and I see this box on a table in the humidor. Vegas Cubana(I almost looked away)but saw by Don Pepin Garcia. I had not heard about these cigars at all. I picked it up and the 1st thing I noticed is the wrapper is not as dark as I have seen in my limited Pepin experience.

I then looked at the price tag $7.95 and said what the hell let's give it a shot. First impressions was a very silky type feel to the wrapper with some veins but a nice cap. The smell was of a deep rich tobacco very nice.
Firm cigar with no real soft or hard spots so fr so good.

I gave it a v-cut and inspected the foot and I could tell that there would be no draw problems. I toasted the foot. On the first draw I got a sweet tangy spice taste. As the first 3rd progressed into a woody taste. The draw on the cigar was outstanding and the burn flawless.

The second 3rd of the cigar was more of a sweet sometime heavy spice taste. The ash was a medium grey and held well and a blueish-grey smoke. I also started to notice a oily sheen building up on the cigar.

The final 3rd of the cigar really developed into some heavy rich tobacco flavor which I really enjoyed. I at no time had any issues with draw or burn.

I was very pleasantly surprised with this stick when I picked it up and first looked at it I thought this is not going to be on the stronger side(which I enjoy). But this smoke was mid to full bodied and finished up very well. I went back to the smoke shop to grab me a 5er. I have a feeling that with some age on it this is going to be one fine smoke.

Final Score 8.5 out of 10

Best Regards
Don

Good review!

Always better with a pic though.

I need to revisit these again. The three I smoked were more mild to medium bodied at best. I felt it was lacking something most Pepin blends embody. I have one sitting in the humi that I will spark up tonight. Thank you pembroke for review. You motivated me to give this cigar another try.

I have one with the old style, pre-2007 band on it. I wasn't all that excited to try it, but this review has my interest piqued.

Theses are excellent cigars that age extremely well. I smoked a corona yesterday with well over two years on it. Very nice.
I will say that when fairly fresh, they do need to be smoked on the dryer side. between 60-65% rh.
This and his El Rey de Los Habanos Marcas are older blends than the blues, whites, and blacks.
They provide good flavor without knocking your boots off. They both do real well in the Corona size, making it one of my standard morning smokes.

I really want to try one of thes with some age on it. I did not even know these existed(can tell I am a newbie  ). But seriously I really enjoyed it.

Best Regards
Don

I like this cigar - med. at most. If you keep these at low humidity, I find that the flavors really come out more.

I'll pile on here...

Awesome smokes, usually can be had for much cheaper than Pepin's new stuff. I haven't tried em in the corona vitola, hmmm.... :whistling: ....if only I had storage space left. lol.

Good review. I learned of the cigar only a few months ago while in a confrence in Orlando, FL. Since then, I had not seen them again in my area (Miami). But, a few weeks ago, I bumped into them at a local shop and a few days ago I found them in the warehouse of my online cigar source. I bought a few... Love them.
