Unhappy Thread

My daughter's best friend at school officially has Teh Covids. That means 10 day quarantine at home for my child since girls are always so damn huggy with each other. Initial home test was negative here, and she has to have a PCR test in five days. If that is negative, too, then she can return to school. Yay... :/

My wife and daughter tested positive. I’m scheduled to test Tuesday. My daughter got over her symptoms and is all better. I had fever and chills with body ache today. My wife has a nasty cough that is persisting. I hope her inhaler continues to help. We were all fully vaxed and adults boosted. Likely came from my daughters school. Friggin pissed as we have taken all precautions for the past 2 plus years.

Same hear rampage through our house regardless of how careful we were. This "new" one is very aggressive. Super contagious.

Sorry to hear, C. I hope that your family gets over it quickly, and your wife doesn't get any worse. You all will be in our thoughts.

The way I see it, is that we are all going to get it sooner or later. My wife and I take all the precautions (she's even more crazy about it than I am, and I thought that I was a little over the top...), but I'm not going to be upset about it when it happens. It's pretty much inevitable, really. I'll probably change my tune if one of us ends up in the hospital or something, but as long as we continue to do everything we can to mitigate, then we'll deal with it when it happens. (As a follow-up: my daughter here has taken another negative home test, and has her PCR test tomorrow)

I was off last week with the crap, pretty sure this was my 2nd go around. The weather was nice so I beat it back with ~3 cigars/day. Feel fine today, must have worked!

This was a lot milder than the 1st one, no endless constant coughing - just felt like when you know a flu is about to set in but the other shoe never dropped. Just bleh for a few days.

So seems my cvid symptoms are over , but went to the ER on Monday because my legs from my knees down were so itchy , nothing would calm it , lye soap , calamine and some other creams/lotions were tried.
And now its my legs, arms ,back , the pharmacy finally decided to fill my prescription last night picked up today , we'll see if it helps or not , but the itchiness is driving me insane.

Strange. Our symptoms are finally over and wife is back at work since Tuesday. I’ve worked the entire time, guess that’s the downside, to working from home. No more snow or sick days, you just push through it.

Our taste would come and go. I told another member that I made a Apple Crown/cranberry juice cocktail on Sunday night. Couldn’t taste the crown or the cranberry, but I could tell there was tartness there. Strange for sure.

My taste tried to go out. I don't remember what it was, but I couldn't taste one cigar a couple of days in. Nothing, like dry air. Then I tried another a few hours later and could taste a little. Next day, taste was normal.

My calves itch something terrible in the winter. I wear insulated underwear (long handles to me and Floyd) a lot in the winter, I don't know if that has anything to do with it or just dry air. I'd scratch 'em raw like a dog will when they get an itch. Started using O'Keefe's hand cream on them and man it helps. Probably not an option for full body itch unless you got a kinky streak.

Medicated oatmeal baths helped me when I got about 95% coverage poison ivy as a kid, might give that a whirl - it's not thick oatmeal like a mud bath, like a cup of the stuff in a tub of water.

No heat. Well intermittent heat last Friday, it corrected itself for the weekend until Monday. Was able to get furnace to fire to make it to Tuesday. Waited 3 hours for furnace guy, and an hour and a half if him fooling around with it. Of course Tuesday it was perfect, no problem found.

Started acting up again while I was at work today, thought it was the nest thermostat, or the latest software, but at this point I’m directly jumping the wires with no thermostat and it try’s to light but it’s like the gas valve isn’t opening.

Of course this happens after furnace place is closed for the day. Spent hours with nest only to figure out that it may be the furnace after all, which I firmly believe now.

Oh and temps are supposed to go real low tonight.

Have the one space heater in the room where the furnace is, because this is also where most of the plumbing is. Most of the house is 65 right now, basement is upper 50s.

Brr.

Sooooo... Daughter had PCR test yesterday which came back negative. This morning she took two self-tests that both showed positive (one from the sniffer and one from the back of the throat). Currently waiting on the line to make her another PCR test. Wife self-tested negative this morning, but we are all in quarantine until daughter's PCR test results. In all seriousness, this is causing diplomatic and defense-relations issues, as she has now had to postpone meetings several times that are necessary before Dutch nationals can travel to the USoA for official defense reasons. That's the perils of being a one-deep position in the Age of Covid, I guess.

Not really sure this belongs here or in the happy thread.

This morning my daughter decides to call me at 5:30 this morning and tell me she might be pregnant. Thier bills get paid but in all honesty they can't really afford a kid.

I don't know if there is positive or how to find it if there is.

Maybe it hasn't really set in yet , maybe I'm try to think its not reality.

I really don't know what to think.

Just have to roll with it I'm afraid. I assume there is some form of state funding for those on low/no income?

You get a grandchild out of it! The rest is details. You get the best parts of being a parent, but you get to give the kid back when it gets snotty. :)

I understand your concern with the financial situation, and it is a major and valid worry. One way or another, life will work itself out.

I got the vid on December 17th, tested positive on the 19th. Had one day of feeling bad on the 18th, and 6 or 7 days of feeling really tired. Lost taste and smell for 4 or 5 days. Still suffering from lack of energy.

But all in all, I was lucky!

They make to much for state funding, its more of unnecessary spending by her husband more then anything

I went through the same issues with mine and replaced a few parts. Replaced the igniter/pilot lights, thermocouple, flame sensor and the gas valve. Finally pulled the board off enough to see that a spot on it had burned. I ordered a new board, replaced it and it’s been working since.
