I thought I read this in another post, but cant find it and dont remember the answer. I just got my first tubos (5 assorted) and want to know how to store them. In humi with tubes as is, or tubes opened.

This may sound like a stupid question or one covered many times before, but, if the tubes are sealed, how do the cigars dry out? Must they be stored in a humi?

I really enjoy CPass, but all the good info and deals I am finding, I just overflowed my humi. Time to take all the info and get a cooler set up.

I have read here that some use the florists foam and it works fine, but others use beads. Beads are a far greater cost (isnt it like $20) Are they worth it?

Thanks everyone for all the insights and experience.

they are not air tight...if you want to test that opinion, simply throw a sealed tube into a fishtank and see how smokable it is afterwards :-)

Break the seal and pop the top, IMO. But no, they aren't air tight. It still doesn't allow for much airflow though.

I say leave 'em sealed. I've heard great things about cigars aged in tubes

As far as humidification goes get the CLIMMAX BEADS

They are more then worth the cost. You won't be sorry.

Include a note that you are from CP and Vern will give you a discount :)

It depends on the type of tube. If it is an aluminum tube, it is not airtight and the cigar will dry out fairly quickly. I put them in the humidor but don't worry about popping the cap. (I am a path of least resistance kind of guy when it comes to cigar storage.) As for the glass tubes with a plastic stopper and seal, those babies are generally pretty airtight so I do not bother to put them in the humidor. I have kept Dominican RyJ's in their original packaging, un-humidified, for more than a year and they still did not dry out.

I know, I'm a heretic, but I also have a job, and interests other than cigars, and don't have time for the more esoteric theories of cigar storage. :)

If you have space in the humi keep em in there. If you don't those are the first ones you can think about leaving out.

Also use the beads!

Definitely keep your aluminum tubos in your humi. I hope I didn't give the impression you could store them out ???

I did get both aluminum and glass. I did make some room in my humi, so they are all in there, nice and happy, still in the tubes.

I did make a small coolidor from a "6pack" cooler I had. I put in some cedar blocks I had, along with a shot glass half full with 50/50 juice, and its been at 68% after 12 hours (the hygrom was 66% when I put it in). The sticks I put in were some every day smokes that I really didnt care that much about anyhow, so no harm no foul if they dry a bit.

Thanks all for the expertice.

My 10cents worth. (inflation)

I have and had several Montecristo - Petit Tubos Mareva (Petit Corona)ISOM which I have left in the tubes, in a humidor. I bought them in Vancouver Canada in 2000. They've been wonderful ever since!!!

What about the ammonia if the tubo is airtight, does it effect the cigar?

Ha ha..... somebody was using the "search" button.....

1 Year old..........
