Troubles with humidor

So my humidors about 2 months old now and ive  had no issues with it. But now during the dead of winter im having some issues with maintaining my humidity. I like to keep it anywhere between 65-70 but lately its been dropping below 60 so Ive had to wet a rag and sort of been re-break it in to get it back up to 65. After having done this like 5-7 times in the last 2 weeks, its still dropping below 60. I threw in about 10 new sticks in about 2 weeks ago so initially i just thought it was the new guys taking some of the moisture out of the humidor but now 2 weeks later its a little ridiculous. Any ideas on why this is happening?

What kind of humidification are you using? Also dumb question, do you have a wood stove or pellet stove in the house? My pellet stoves seem to make my life a little harder during the winter months as well.

Im just using the standard  thing that comes with the humidor, and no i dont have a wood stove but i do have a fire in the fireplace about 1 or 2 times a week. Its on a completely different floor than my humidor but just thought id add that

The "standard thing" thats very generic..... there are thousands of devices or ways to humidify a humidor, can you be more specific or send a pic?

The standard thing would be green foam IMO.

That being said:

1- verify the seal id the humidor woth the dollar bill trick
2- ordre some Heartfelt beads to help maitain RH%
3- read about the ambient temp affecting the RH%
4- in the winter it's more than normal to see the RH% drop as the household become more dry inside due to electric heating and fireplaces.

IF this did not put you on the right track I would suggest a 'search' in the archives and I know you'll find an answer.

I assumed it was the green foam as well, but you never know thats why I asked, trying to narrow it down before going any further, But as Doc posted, that link should take care of it.

Awesome advice from Louich, first thing you do it #2 on his list.   The rest will work themselves out after you complete that step.  The "foam" that humidors come with are purely decorative IMO, and should not be used to keep cigars fresh with.

Someone please give this supernoob a timeout before we lose the title of "most knowledgeable cigar forum"....

Unbelievable truly unbelievable. I was wrong for asking what kind of humidification source was in the box? You answer a question by assuming or guessing what he has? Guess you guys are knowledgeable so much so you can just assume things. Charrah Listen to these guys NOT me cause YES I am a NEWB (that was just trying to HELP) but again stick my foot in my mouth. Ill just shut up, and let them POINT OUT AGAIN AND AGAIN im new.

They are correct I am Not. Docs link is a very good reference and Louich also knows what hes doing they are you best source of info for this so far.

Hope my question didnt make you think that this community is Dumb as they so pointed out. Only trying to help.

Enjoy your stay here at Cigarpass hope you find everything your looking for and then some.

You think you could just PM me saying your dumb dont comment, instead of trying to make a spectacle of people in there thread? He came here to have a question answered not to read people bitching at me. I dont think I said anything wrong here to get a comment like that? I didnt give advice to him because im new, I only asked questions to obtain info on the situation. Info for everyone that came to read this so they didnt have to ask those questions. I feel that my questions to him were valid questions that could be used to help point him in the right direction, rather then giving him generic info or wrong info based on a assumption of what he was using thats all. As you know I dont just shut up when people throw comments at me for no reason. If people have a problem with me, keep it between you and I pm me and we can talk about it. Yes you guys are VERY VERY knowledgeable and so is this community, and everything I have learned is I am great full for. But we could really do with out the comments again, had I given advice that was wrong I understand the comment....no advice was given. Had I asked a question like....Is it that squishy green smelly shaped moist thingy that you put wet stuff on to make it sragweaty in the box. some outrageously retarded sounding question once again I understand, but my question was very simple.

Charrah hope they have pointed you in the correct direction, We will stop bickering in your thread, and I do say WE.

Doc your more proactive than me. Thanks for the link (a must read for newbies  BTW)

Well Extreme I will let you talk for you but as far as we are concerned, we want to help members (you included) but the starting point to every questions you have is searching first, then asking.  I was more than uninformed when I first started here. The first month I think I posted 30 times maximum (And then became the beaver mascott of the community).

Extreme, the wrong part is not about you trying to find an answer IMO it about you tryin to trouble shoot the problem like it's done on a car forum. The forum as been active for more than 10 years, you can take for granted that most of the trouble shooting is already adressed in previous posting.

The standard thing aint that generic, every humidor comes in with green foam it's not even an educated guess.

As far as thousands of devices to keep the RH once again your in the worng my friend.
1-There his the green foam that does not help regulating RH and just keep adding to the RH.
2-Silica beads that are recharged and are the way to go IMO. Sometime this is replaced by silica litter.
3-Humidity gel, work nicely but not as nice has the beads (IMO once again)
4-And then there are the boveda pacl and humidity pillows.

That pretty much the thousans of options you talking about.

The guys that pm'ed you are trying to show you the way to behave around here and not make a show out of it, nothing more nothing less...I think you should follow some of their advices.

I said please.
You offered to keep your trap shut.
I said thank you, with a happy face.
You opened your trap again.

So what is the problem? Stop stepping in it. Start listening and learning.

No, that's not going to happen.  As long as you keep displaying your stupidity in a public forum, you can expect public rebuttal.  Maybe, just maybe, there are one or three other people that post here that (OMG) may know more about this than you do.

The link that Doc posted is spot on, and completely explains why humidors struggle in the winter months.  These forums have tons of knowledge in them, you just have to be smart enough to actually look, then STFU and listen when solid advice if being offered.  Just a thought....

Was I trying to tell you that you all were wrong? was I telling him what to do? or was I simply asking a question? Thats all im saying I dont get you guys sometimes I really dont, Help this guy out and stop arguing with me. Thats my only issue with the comments toward me. im not trying to step on anyones toes or say i know better im just trying to be a part of the community and you all dont want me to.....Im done explaining myself, you guys dont like me thats fine. Ive said it before ill swallon my pride from here on out and just shut up, you guys keep getting that last word in trying to prove more of a point so it keeps me going LOL. You again have taught me alot, so its hard for me to get pissy with all of you but sometimes I just gotta speak my mind thats all.

Oh my another seasonal disorder problem is not knowing when to stop typing. This occurs when search is not your friend and the old "he doesn't get it" fails! Carry on gentlemen, good to see that folks still don't get what CP is about.
