Trinidad Coloniales

This is one of the new sizes offered by Trinidad, actually its the medium sized one measuring in at 5.2 x 44. This was my first Trinidad (isom) ever, and I was very excited especially with all the hype I've heard and read about Trinidads in general.

The cigar is very light colored, with a pig tail cap. Its the same color as a natural or ct. shade wrapper. The construction of the cigar is near flawless. Tightly packed and weighted. Slightly heavier than you'd expect from a cigar this size. I pulled the cigar from my Conka Survivor, and took a big sniff... Smells goooood. :)

Whipped out the Xikar and clipped the cap. The pre-light draw was very good. The cap cut perfectly, no splitting- a good sign. I proceeded to toast the foot, got it nice and cherry red, and blew out the first "puff", as to not pull any bad taste or flavor through the cigar. Then I took in a big pull of smoke. The cigars draw was just a little more tight than I would have liked, but it wasnt a problem. This cigar didn't produce as much smoke as I'd prefer either.

The flavor was good, and the strength was mild in my opinion. No bitterness or harshness of anykind. It lacked that spicy kick I had come to expect from most of my island cigars.

The flavor stayed consistent through out the entire cigar, never changing (at least to my palette). The burn was as close to perfect as I'd ever seen in any cigar, and it was a finger burner for sure ;)

Overall, I'd rate the cigar as solid but Mild cigar, with excellent flavor, but a little more mild than I personally like, especially from an island cigar. The lack of plumes of smoke (which I like) was a little disapointing to me.

I'd give the cigar a solid 90. But honestly, I don't see myself buying more- as I prefer stronger isoms.

(I'm not very good at writing things, especially reviews- so comments and opinions welcomed and expected :))

I don't think you'll find the spice in the new Trinis (or older Fundadores, for that matter)...but I've always appreciated the flavor, and usually smoke these as my first cigar of the night.

Curious...what humidity level do you store these at? I prefer the draw is best for my ISOMs around 64%....just a personal preference.

In my experience, spice never was a Trinidad staple. I smoke 'em just for the diversity.

I have yet to smoke the Coloniales, though I did just get one from emo that needs to be burnt. The other two new sizes though have been pretty good smokes. The smaller Reyes has had the most "oompf" and reminded me of a Siglo I, though not quote as spicey. The Robusto Extra was a milder version of the Siglo VI, IMO.

Great review Toaster. Thanks.

I'd like to give the largest size in the Trinidad ISOM line a go.

I have 4 humidors right now, 3 desktops and a cooler. 1 desktop for domestics, premiums, etc. 1 desktop for island cigars only, 1 desktop for bundle domestics (this is the one I let my non-cigar smoking friends pull from when they want to mooch a cigar ;)) and the cooler which is everything (started out being for long term storage  ) ..... The cooler stays at around 68-70% and the desktops flux between 63-70% depending on how long I wait to add water.

So basically these trinis have been in the humidor for a couple of week at around what? 67% g/t. The tightness I felt on the draw was from the cigar imho, not the RH. But thats my opinion. Like I said the burn was as near perfect as I'd ever seen from any of my cigars... Usually in my case, when I have cigars that are too wet and the draw is tight, the cigar doesnt burn well.... it will run or tunnel, etc... these burned great. :)

Great review Tom. I'm planning on firing one up in a couple of weeks. The rest will most likely have to wait a long, long time :D
