Sorry, but no pics on this. Cigar is choice last night was a Trilogy Ovation Corojo gifted to me from a BOTL for something incredible I'm sure. According to some websites I looked on, this entire cigar is made of Nic. tobacco.
I fired this up at O'Briens bar in Tampa, FL while I enjoyed a couple pints of Smithwicks. Man... that's good stuff. I haven't had it before.
Anyway, on to the important stuff, the cigar. The Ovation Corojo is a 5.25x54 beauty. I usually like 50 ring guages, but don't mind dabbling in the larger ones every now and then. This one was worth it. The construction was perfect, very small veins, nice cap, etc.
I used a method outline mentioned elsewhere and scored around the cap and popped it off. I don't know how much this contributed to the perfect burn of the cigar, but it certainly didn't hurt. I toasted the foot and this thing lit up rather easily. A minor touch up to hit one side and then the cigar burned straight and smooth the rest of the time. One of the best burning cigars I've had in quite a while.
Who cares about burning, though, right? What's it taste like? Let's just say that I loved the flavor. It was a good light-medium bodied smoky, woody flavor with pretty strong cedar aftertastes. The cedar was almost too strong at first, but it mellowed out as I got into the cigar. The ash was a smooth, consistent gray color and the ash tapped off and held a good shape throughout. I nubbed this thing as much as I could over the course of two pints (I drank slow), but didn't let the ash grow to long for fear of dropping it on myself in the bar. The taste was consistent throughout and never got bitter. There was no tar and it didnt' get hot until I got down to the nub. The large ring gauge produced a lot of fine smelling smoke. A guy a couple of seats down commented that the cigar smelled really good (as he smoked a cigar of his own).
I've always been a fan of the trilogy, but I haven't had this shape. Thank you for the opportunity. I loved the flavor and enjoyed the larger ring guage for a change. I would definitely keep these in stock and it's made me curious to try the other wrappers available on the Ovations for a comparison. I did a _quick_ search and found a box of 20 of these is only going for $70. Can't be beat at that price. I give this cigar and 8 out of 10.
