I was rearranging one of my desktops today and this beauty was at the bottom. I believe it was in a bomb I received from a fine BOTL sometime ago, probably about 5 months ago or so. I decided I would pour a glass of Port (because I'm out of single malt) and spark this baby up. Here we go!!!
This stick had a beautiful wrapper H2000 I believe I read somewhere. Maybe one or two medium sized veins, nothing to unsightly. It was a rectangular box press reminiscent of a Padron 26. I shaved a little off the cap, and found the draw was very free with the taste of sweet tobacco in the pre-light draw. The first third had the taste of coffee bean with a slight amount of chocolate flavor on the backside. There was also a slight spice on the back of the tongue.
I found the draw was so free I barely had to pull on it to get huge volumes of smoke. This was the first cigar I've had that was that free, and I must say a little resistance may be a good thing . The ash was solid and very light gray in color. The core was hard but the outside was a little flaky and small pieces would fall off every now and then. Not really a big deal to me though, as it was only for the first third.
In the second third the flavors stayed the same but they intensified substantially. The spice started to build on the back of the tongue. I had 2 burn issues which I fixed with a small pass of the double torch. Other than that it was pretty uneventful.
During the final third it went out while I wasn't paying attention, probably because I was so engrossed in House (God, I love that show), so I purged, re-lit, and was back off to the races. The spice tingle had moved to the tip of my tongue, which was different, but still enjoyable. The chocolate, and coffee was still present, and had not changed since the second third.
All in all, I was kind of surprised by this cigar. I had read a couple of reviews before I posted this for comparison, and most of them said this was as close to a poor mans Padron Anniversary as you can get. I am inclined to believe them. This was a very tasty smoke indeed. I will defiantly buy a box to throw in the cooler.
Cheers!
