Too good to be true?!?!?!

I looked at the same deal. And i too thought it was too good to be true. But, then the whole 'they are not real Cohibas' argument started so I stayed away. Besides gregor22 says he's got a Dominican (Yellow Band) COHIBA for me to try at the HERF. I'll hold off judgement until then. Maybe then, I'll order them.

But, it does sound pretty good huh? These are probably a great golf course give away stick given the name on the band.

Well, according to the court order, any left on May 31st have to be destroyed in a designated location. So expect them to get cheap, real cheap.

Myself, I'll probably pick up four or five boxes for the novelty of it. They aren't a really great cigar, but that price is fantastic, and soon I'd expect prices everywhere to get comparably low.

With the court ruling and probable property destruction many cigar businesses are unloading anything that has 'Cohiba' on it in the US. Inside a recent purchase I discovered a freebie Cohiba watch. Nothing fancy, plastic wrist band... but a good example of prefering to help customer relations rather than just have to turn the stuff over.

Well, upon closer inspection, there are two problems (at least for me ??? ) For one, it's V.I.P. only, which may or may not be temporary. And the other, I'm 19, and they claim "Cigar5packs.com does not sell tobacco or tobacco related products to anyone under the age of 21."

I wonder how they verify that.

Ahhhhh........so it WAS too good to be true......

"The devil's in the details."

Here's another COHIBA Blowout!

COHIBA

$40 a box.......These Yellow Band COHIBAS seem to be the only ones that are dropping in price........I haven't seen the bottom fall out of the Red Dots (yet).

I thought the yellow band's ceased production a couple years ago. In any case vendors have been blowing those out for years.

Yeah, I didn't notice the first link was for yellow bands. They are getting pretty cheap, I've seen them at $30-35 a box.

Anyone ever tried them?

At the risk of beating a dead horse.

My understanding is that there is no such thing as a legit yellow band cohiba in the US. The yellow Dominican Cohibas were long ago ruled an infringement on General's trademark (yes, the trademark which they just lost, but that is a whole other topic). They Yellows are made by many different individuals and factories in the DR (which means if someone gives one a rave review, you've got no assurances that you are smoking the same one as they did) and may not be imported into the US.

Bottom line, if they are yellow and available in the US, they are black (or at least grey) market. Unregulated. Made by any one, of a dozen, knockoff outfitts. And more likely than not, taste like cr@p.

That's as much as I know (or think I know) take it for what it's worth. ;)

I plead ignorance as far as Cohibas are concerned, but the pictures on the websites mentioned so far have bands that look essentially the same as the ones on the Cohibas from you-know-where. Of course they are not.

So, are these the yellow bands folks are talking about? Is/was the red dot the only legit Cohiba band available in the US?

It's my understanding that the yellow bands that were in country at the time of the General Cigar/Dominican ruling, are still legal. That does not make them a good smoke, though. Gregor
