Blended to mirror the body and flavor of the original 1901 Cuban Bolivar cigar, this "exile" version (intro- duced in 2005) features hearty Nicaraguan tobaccos at the core and a tawny, Honduran-grown San Augustin Ligero wrapper. This is a very full-flavored and complex cigar that paints your palate in a thick, scrumptious coat of dark, earthy tobacco flavors.
One of the most unique elements in this cigar is the high-priming, Honduran-grown wrapper. Depending on your palate, you may even detect a scintilla of cinnamon this leaf imparts on the finish. The filler is composed of a Dominican leaf and two unique Nicaraguan-grown leaves; the first is grown in Esteli, the second is grown on the volcanic island of Ometepe. The island's fertile soil gives the tobacco a distinctive spicy characteristic that adds to the cigar's complexity. The binder is a dark, extra-long-aged "Havana Medio Tiempo" leaf grown in Connecticut. (This leaf is also used for the wrapper on the Partagas Black Label.) It's very rich, with a naturally semi-sweet flavor, and is highly aromatic.
If you're among the newly initiated, the Bolivar may be a little much for you. Like a gourmet salsa, it's potent and peppery; not totally overpowering, but fairly heady.
