Well, this has been coming for some time now. Just 4-5 years ago I was the perfect physical specimen...under 10% body fat, energetic, healthy, then life got in the way and a high calorie, high fat diet took over.
I've been exploring options for awhile...I don't do crash diets (they don't work), and I'm too young for any surgical option. I developed an exercise anxiety when I put on weight....going from the guy that everyone admired in the gym, I got the perception that everyone was judging me..."Why is this fat guy even trying?" is the kind of looks I felt I got when I did muster up the will to get back in the gym. That certainly didn't give me any motivation.
After some research, and success stories of close friends, I've gone through the physicals and doctors meetings and have been accepted into the Methodist Hospital's Medical Weight Loss program. It is a non-surgical ketosis diet until you hit your goal weight and then a stage of "transition" where they teach you good eating habits, emotional and boredom based eating triggers, etc...which arms you with the tools to make the right decisions. Then there is a maintenance phase where you check in every so often to make sure you aren't going back to your old self.
Almost all of the weight is lost within the first 6 months...on about a 12 month program, though everyone has different amounts to lose and loses them at different rates. You're in Ketosis until you hit your target. The dieticians, after running all of their tests, told me I should target losing 112-122 lbs....and that it is obtainable within a 6 month period. We'll see...I'm committed and tired of being fat...especially when I know what it's like to be thin and muscular. Plus, I have a newborn son I need to be around for and be able to have the energy to play with.
I'm currently 362lbs. (I've gained over 90lbs. in 4 years). My cholesterol is 170, heart rate is 74, and BP is 136/84. I start Friday. Goal: 240lbs.
I'll post a before photo and progress photos once I start shedding some weight.
Contest: What date will I weigh in at 262lbs (a 100lb. triple-digit weight loss). Winner gets a nice pack of smokes....though it might be some time.
Fri., Nov. 18 - 362lbs.
Wed., Nov . 23 - 352.1lbs
Wed., Nov. 30 - 342.9lbs
Wed., Dec. 14 - 329lbs
Wed., Dec. 21 - 323lbs.
Sun., Jan 8th - 311lbs.
