Was in a randy mode, so I busted out some rarerer cigars for torching while playing poker (read: losing money) at my cigar club.

Padrón 40th Anniversary (6" x 54) -- These beautifully made cigars are a new and limited edition to the 1926 Serie line from Padrón. They are, of course, beautifully made cigars that smoke like a dream. The profile was coffee, dark chocolate, with hints of nuts, with a wonderful sweet aftertaste of a deeply aged maduro. Only 400 boxes of 40 cigars are ever going to be made in this vitola, so they are as rare as a white buffalo, but don't despair. I didn't find the profile to be significantly different than that of the regular 1926 line (which is to say, wonderful); it's likely the blend is the same, and the flavor differences are due to the vitola.

Perdomo Edicion de Silvio Salamon (7 1/4" x 49 x 60) -- This is another limited cigar from the already fairly hard to find Edicion de Silvio line: only 400 chests of 24 cigars are being made in this vitola. Each cigar comes beautifully presented in a coffin bonded with a wax seal, and a strip of cedar winding around the rather prodigious cigar. The flavor was typical of the EDS line, very creamy, slightly nutty/popcorn-ish hints, and the wonderful characteristic of being smooth and spicy at the same time. My favorite thing about these cigars is how you smoke them very much determines the flavors that emanate from the silky-smooth smoke.

Arturo Fuente Destino al Siglo "13" (6 3/8" x 40) -- This beautifully box-pressed cigar is wrapped in a thick, meaty wrapper that one might mistake for a Padrón Maduro at first glance. The cigar tastes nothing like a Padrón, though: it's sweet, slightly spicy, and almost minty (not in a menthol-way... hard to describe), it has a very unique profile. It smoked very smoothly, and despite being the third cigar of the night, it stood out with a medium-full bodied flavor that was lick-smacking delicious. This cigar is a pre-released version of what will (eventually) become a special anniversary cigar for Fuente, the name of which may be "Don Arturo Destino al Siglo"

I had a very enjoyable night of cigars; lost money at poker, but whatever, it was a wonderful night!

Very nice lineup there Andrew......I'm sure they all distracted you from the game

Well, that's just my opinion -- I've heard conflicting stories about the blend, and Marito (someone who knows his Padróns) felt the blend was different. Taste is subjective, as always -- but they certainly are in the ballpark of the other 1926s, so you'll know what to expect in terms of taste.

People should be selling the cigars for $25 a pop; I'd imagine once the hype dies down a bit, you'll be able to find them for that regularly, but that's still a good bit more than the regular 1926s. Worth trying once if you like the taste of the 1926 maduro line. GREAT cigar regardless of the blend...

If you don't make a mess, you're doing something wrong! :D

I didn't realize the AF13 was box pressed. Is that the only boxpressed AF cigar (other than the occasional special FFOX)?

Yeah, only one I'm aware of anyway. It's a more subtle box press than the very severe one that Padrón uses.
