I know most of the active ones on this board got some of that HDM pound split. I got mine in the mail yesterday. I have to say, I like it alot. and not just for the flavor which is fine. It a very dry tobacco, which I think will work gloriously for breaking in a pipe and building some starter cake. Also since its dry it will impart little to no flavor over time.

I've been battling a nasty bug for the past month, and so my smoking time has been limited and I haven't packed a bowl of this yet...

I'll give it a whirl today.

Just FYI - I posted a review of my HDM pipe tobacco experience here.

Good review. I did pick up a few sweet notes and a few cigar tastes. Its not bad, I'm going to try it a few times in a new pipe to see how it builds cake, if it builds the cake well I think we might have a really good blend to break in pipes.

I haven't gotten a chance to smoke any yet, but it smells just like a Cuban cigar. It looks like chopped cigar leaf to me, and it is rather dry.

I hope to try it tomorrow, but I may not get a chance until sometime next week. :(

I can't wait!

To be honest, I can't smoke of full pipe of just the HDM. It's WAY too strong. I smoke very lite tobacco. I have been doing half of HDM and half of some very lite tobacco (which has no bite) and they make a very good combination, IMHO. Either way, it's great stuff, just stronger than what I am used to.

I smoked the first bowl full and it was pretty strong. The second bowl was a little smoother, but the nic kick was pretty hefty. The third bowl I smoked I blended this tobacco half/half with Boswell's Mild English. This really added some flavor to the Mild English and really cut down on the strength of the HdM tobacco.

I'm almost certain that this is just straight cigar leaf chopped up and pressed into a cake. It smells like cigars, it looks like cigars, and tastes like cigars. The strength is intensified by smoking it in a pipe and I think by the drier nature of the tobacco. That's not a bad thing, but it sure isn't for everyone.

I'm going to reserve this one for blending with other tobaccos and for a "change of pace" type smoke. By the look TheWife[sup]©[/sup] gave me when she caught a whiff of this stuff straight I'm not sure this is a crowd pleaser, either.

Thats seems to be the way to go with this blend. I am going to mix it with some of my moist blends and see how it goes.

Right now I am in a situation where I have a ton of un-caked pipes. I need to buckle down and build some cake on most of these things!

so how is this stuff now that it's been a few months?

johnny has some available again and i've been looking for a smoke with a profile like this.

I'm using it blended with a generic Virginia blending tobacco. I still can't smoke the stuff straight up.

It is very much like the cigars. It is just mucho strongo from a pipe.
