On December 2nd I ordered a package for a friend of mine serving in the Navy who just discovered cigars and was curious what was out there. It just so happens that I received a Thompson Cigar catalog that day and saw a travel humi with 12 or 13 medium priced smokes. I figured this was perfect for my buddy! Alright, go online, place the order, confirmation received via email. Everything looks good! I get notification from them that there are new age verification requirements from the State so I fax in a copy of my DL and sit back to wait.

A few weeks go by and I receive nothing. I call only to find they claim they did not receive the age verification and please send it again. I comply even though now I will not be able to get it to my buddy in time for Christmas. Today, after still not receiving said sticks I called only to be told they still are awaiting my age verification! I told the customer service rep, after being on hold for 20 minutes, to send the damn order but all I got was "I'm sorry sir there is nothing to be done until we receive your age verification". I told them to shove the order where the sun doesn't shine and F/O!!! Now, a cancellation number? No sir, we don't have those. BS, what's the number?! The order just goes away sir. Yeah, right! Give me a number, I say again. She gives me a number.

THOMPSON CIGARS IS A P.O.S.!!!!!

Ouch! You learned the hard way alright! I just had a similar problem with a vendor whose package was supposed to reach me by Christmas. Mine is still unresolved, unfortunately.

DITTO

I hated the up sell with them.
I would place an order then the chick would be like" How about our Dominican super sampler" I would say NO then she would try to sell me more bs that I did not want.
The final straw was the coffee up sell.

Coffee for Gods sake!!!!

Sorry you had to have such a rough experience. Hopefully, everyone else can learn from your experience.

This should teach everyone:

Order from a reputable B&M or a REPUTABLE online retailer.

I normally do order form reputable sources but the deal seemed damn good at the time and was perfect for my buddy................not worth the headache by a long shot!!

cbid has some great combo deals, too. Or CI if they have a sale.

But Atlantic has great customer service AND kickass samplers/fivers.

Holts and JR's gets mentioned a lot and for good reason. However, Atlantic cigar has been good as well.

Worse than their service is their own brand cigars. Around 20 years ago someone gave me a sampler box from them and they were real turd sticks.

I had trouble with them too recently. I ordered something through their site and they HELD It without sending it saying they needed to verify something via the phone. After that I was BOMBARDED with their phone calls trying to get me to join their points club, at least once a day up to three times a day for over a week. I had a log in my phone of over 20 incoming calls from their 800 number. Every time they called I insisted I be taken off their call list, and that they ship my order immediately. They finally shipped it, but the calls continued. I talked to a manager who apologized and said she personally took me off the list. But the calls continued. Finally I got another manager on the phone who again said he would take me off the list.

I sent an email to them (went unread no doubt) letting them know they have the worst busniness practices of any online retailer I've ever dealt with and that no only was I never going to order from them again but I would also tell every cigar smoker I know my story and never to do business with them. Never got a reply. And here's my message to cigarpass.com letting anyone here know who might order from them... DON'T!!!!

Thompson's is the pits, you can get some great deals on humidors at C-bid. :D

I haven't verified this, but a fellow botl informed me that a few years back, Thompson's had actually hacked a larger Cigar company's database to get their customers. Suddenly JR Cigar's customer's (I think) were being bombarded with Thompson's catalogs and emails.

I was gifted 50 of Thompson's actual brand cigars for Christmas couple years ago from my father-n-law as he was ignorant...talk about absolute cheap, horrible crap! I could not even give them away. I used them as a buffer in my 1st humidor until my collection overtook them, and they found their way into a trash can.

Totally agree about Thompson. They may be ok for the new smoker because it doe kinda ease them in. But last I saw most of their selections are their brands which are definitly subpar. I work overseas and have been using CI almost exclusivley and have never had a problem. I get my smokes in 7-10 days which ain't bad.
