But I finally found a bourbon he hasn't tried! :whistling:
Drinking Wathen's Single Barrel tonight, something my local liquor store, Liquid Town, just got in. My bottle is from barrel #812, hand-bottled and hand signed, and 94 proof. The label says its distilled in Kentucky, but bottled by Charles Medley Distillery in San Jose, California.
Nice distinctive square bottle, and only $31 here.
Not as smoky or sweet as some, but nicely fiery and rich, with what I suspect is a healthy dollop of rye in the grain bill, from the taste. Nose is medicinal with sweet undertones, and neat it has considerable bite with a long, smooth finish. Hints of caramel and corn, and a spicy flavor profile. Feels a bit oily on the tongue and goes down thick.
It won't make my top three, but it's nice bourbon and a good price. I think Old Van Winkle 107 is better at the same price point, but I'm liking it just fine.
