Hey,

This topic has come on and off here, but I was basically wondering if anyone actually took the plunge and ordered a thermoelectric wine coolerdor and wouldn't mind taking internal messages. In case of curiousity, I'm thinking about springing for a 28 bottle Avanti Thermoelectric cooler, it's equivalent to an approximately 100qu cooler and I'm hoping there's a way to pull the shelving out and replace it with cedar shelving(they got it in somehow, I should be able to get it out...and I do have a hacksaw). As it's preset for wines (~55 degrees F), I was also going to purchase one of those beer fermenting thermostat shutoffs for it.

The problem is that I can't find internal measurements, and of course, no local store sells this product for me to go in and take messages. I purchased a Reed and Barton a few months ago, and ideally, I'd like this desktop humidor to fit inside the Avanti, and for that, I need measurements.

Any help and or advice from people who have actually done this would be much appreciated.

Well I have never done it - but does not look to hard to do. From the specs it looks like the shelves will just slide out and the thermostat is adjustable. So that takes care of those two items for you.

As for interior size - looks like it holds 4 bottles wide and seven tall. You could get a rough idea by measuring a bottle.

Good luck with it -

Ron

I ebaayed one for $220 with shipping and shipping insurance. The amazon.com one comes to $240 with shipping without insurance, it's new off Ebay, I'll take pictures and post them here when it's complete.

Looks like Amazon has the Avanti your looking at for $189.00. Check it out.

I am considering the same unit for myself. But I need to fit two 52qt coolidors, plus a little extra. I may have to end up going with a bigger unit like this one.

Yep - I'm guessing at the measurements - but the smaller is probably around 3 cu ft where as that larger one is about 10 cubic feet. Which is more what you will need for two coolidors.

I also calculated the 28 bottle to be around 3cu ft (or about 100qu) based from proportion of their 1.7 cu ft 16 bottle fridge. I'll post exactly what the size is when it gets here, if anyone is curious. I'm also going to be using Viper beads for this.

Also, I'm not 100% that larger coolerdor that's linked is thermoelectric, but I do know it's way out of my price range right now.

As far as I know, all Haier Wine chillers are thermoelectric. Thats why they can claim CFC free.

All Haiers may be thermoelectric, but a lot of refrigerators with compressors can claim CFC Free. They do make CFC free compressors now (I googled this).

I have an Avanti thermoelectric wine cooler. It has the capacity of 5 shelves of 6 bottles each and a larger lower area for 4 bottles of bubbly. The interior dimensions are 18 1/2 wide, 28 high, and 12 1/2 deep. The shelves are easily removed. I hope this helps.

Here is a cooler that I am in the process of setting up. It is a 4 cubic foot model. You can adjust its "adjustible" thermostat to its lowest setting buy you will still need to use a controller to get the temperature up high enough. I am currently waiting on the controller to arrive.

The cooler works pretty good and has held a decent temperature and humidity for a couple of days with the unit turned off. So far, so good. :)

Edit: I have to add a thanks to Gary-Smoke for a good post that sparked the idea in my head to try this. Unbelievably to the agreement of the wife.

Is that unit a thermoelectric model?

I don't see that it is in the description anywhere. Looks like a good price on something of that size.

I don't believe that it is a thermoelectric model. I do not believe that it will run very much trying to keep the temperature range that I want and I will have enough humidity control materials in it to controll that.

Here is what I used. A scratch and dent freezer for $300 and a beer thermostat with a Cigar Oasis II. Stays at 65 degrees and 70% perfectly, always. Got plenty of cedar just from all the boxes that the cigars are in. I use a few Oust fans for circulation as well. I can't tell you how happy I have been with this system.

That's ummm - just damn impressive!

Ron

You just replaced the freezer thermostat with the beer cooler one? I'm surprised the Oasis is enought for that volume. No matter, it looks good!

Maybe we should start a collection fund for atuck, he clearly needs money to smoke cigars. My thermoelectric wine cooler arrived Friday, but I was out of town, so I just got it yesterday afternoon. I'm going to wipe it down with white vinegar/water soln and then I'm waiting on the beads, pics will come when finished as promised.

For the possible Avanti 28-bottle buyers: its thermostat does not have a temperature setting, merely 'min, 'med', and 'max' settings, so this is going to take a little tweaking to try to get it to work without the Johnson control unit (the beer thing - as far as I'm concerned, that's money better spent on cigars, or booze).
