Before I get started, I searched but maybe my keywords weren't exactly right.

Do you guys think the humidity makes a big difference in the taste? I've got Viper's 70% beads in my humi and things are working great. I read a cigar review and he said, something to the effect that it was a good cigar at 65% but not so great at 70%.

My palate isn't too sophisticated. I'm just curious as to what you guys thought.

There are proponents in both the 65% and 70% camps.
Try 'em both and see what YOU prefer and with which cigar you prefer it.
Enjoy!

It doesn't make a difference in "taste" but in how the cigars smoke. I prefer 60%.

I would wager most guys here keep it between 60 and 65%. If you are going to shoot for a number otehr than 65 or 70, you need to make sure you have calibrated your hygrometer and know what type of variance you're looking at. So for example, of you salt test (do a CP search for "salt test") your hygrometer and it measured 73%, you know you have a
-2% variance, so if you are shooting for 65%, you need to get your hygro to 67%.

But all that is an awful lot of work. I would suggest just slowly increasing or decreasing your humidity until your cigars feel, smoke, and taste the best - to you.

I prefer to keep my smokes in the 63% range. However, the best way to make the decision is to experiment for yourself and find what you like.
