Is there any reason to make new posts in topics that are, oh I don't know, more than 3-6 months old? I'm a newbie here, and I've read back through a lot of pages, but I don't necessarily see the point of cluttering up the pages with stuff that is no longer relevant. Read them, say your two sentence reply out loud to yourself, and then move on.

Sorry if I'm out of line, but it's getting out of hand.

Most people who necro topics do it for attention. There are cases where a thread should be resurrected, but it's rare.

Disagree

This fly's smack in the face of "search is your friend"

You have a legitimate question about something so you search it out and the topic comes up but may not address your exact question so what do you do? Start another topic or resurrect the old one?

What exactly is being cluttered? Never understood this issue, if you resurrect an old thread which is of no interest to anyone it will soon die again......what's the big deal?

I guess what I am saying, is do you really need to post in a topic that died 6 months ago, to say "hey thanks for posting this it was informative."

If it sparks a question in your mind, no problem. If it is a re-occuring issue, I got no beef with that. If the new post provides some updated info, or starts up a follow up discussion that's great, but when it contributes nothing, just read it, enjoy the information, and leave it where you found it.

I agree with what you are saying. It sucks to re-read an old thread that has been bumped thinking that there is some news in it, then finding out it is only someone saying thanks or +1. It is different if there is some actual content to the post.

That, I agree with. But also keep in mind that it could very well be a simple mistake as a result of searching a topic, finding your answer, and not realizing it's an old, dead, topic and firing off a thanks.

Ok, I'm gonna go ahead and say it the non-politically correct way.

I think he's referring to hott_mic bumping old threads with nothing important to add.

And yes, I agree, it's annoying. If you bump an old thread to add worthwhile content, that's awesome. Otherwise it's extremely annoying.

Oh yea..go to the first post in that thread.

I will add... wait.... let me check to see how old this topic is first.

Only a prob for newbs...... after being here for a while you soon learn who has the ability to post content and who doesn't.

I have to agree, somewhat. I've posted about this in the past too. Intentionally bumping old threads is pointless, most of the time. I've seen threads as old as 7 years bumped. There are times when old threads need to be bumped, but it's rare. Please think before you rejuvenate a thread more than a year old.
