Apologies if this has been covered, but searching the forums on this topic was proving to be a little difficult (lack of unique keywords, I guess).

Does it damage cigars to frequently take them in and out of a humidor?

For some explanation: I'm one of these poor cats who can't smoke in the house and don't usually have time to smoke big cigars. However, being a newbie I pretty much only have robustos in my first, tiny humidor. So, I'll often take a couple stogies with me when I head out into the world. Yet, it's pretty typical that I come home from a day without having found an opportunity to have a cigar, so I return home and put the cigar back in the humidor.

Just wondering if my daily dilemma may be doing damage to my small, but treasured supply.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it. But, if it bothers you, you can get one of those fancy, expensive, leather, three fingered cigar holders that will maintain humidity for a day or so. ;)

What Doc said...but I would suggest one of these to think about too...5 ct. Otterbox

I purchased the 10-count Otter Box last week at a local B&M. In fact, I just finished filling it for my work weekly commute starting in the morning. The six or eight sticks I put in their will give me a decent selection for the remainder of the week.

I'll refill Friday evening for the weekend's activities.

Try one.

I been lookin for a good solution on travel hummis and I keep hearing about this otter box. How long roughly does this item hold a decent humidity level and what is the range of the size of cigars it can hold?

Thank You.

They're waterproof. If you never opened it, it would hold Rh indefinitely. I keep a 25ct tube of beads in my 15ct Otter and I rarely have to recharge them.

Doc.

g-smoke, it sounds like you are just taking the cigar out in the morning and putting back in your humidor in the afternoon.
If so, just put the cigar in a zip-lock baggie. That will keep the cigar at a stable humidity.

Junkman -- yeah, that's basically what I've been doing. I have been carrying the smokes in a basic 3-finger case I got from Cuban Crafters with my humidor. I've been worried that I'll crush them on the subway or fumbling with my coat... Thanks for the sanity check.

I'm still just tasting and sampling, so at least I can now pay attention to that and not worry about the temporary in-n-out.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

If you want portability, maintaining humidity, and protecting your sticks from being crushed or broken, then definitely get an otter box. The 5-count box should fit in a coat pocket.

You can make your own inexpensive traveldor.

Go to Wally world and pick up a "Lock & Lock" container

Cut some Egg Crate foam to size

Throw in a humidipak and maybe a piece of Spanish cedar and you done.
