Gentlemen, don’t forget to wear pink on Friday in honor of the Kentucky Oaks race to be run at Churchill Downs. The track has partnered with the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer charity and has officially declared pink to be the color of attire to be worn to the track on Friday, April 30, 2010 in honor of this worthy cause. The Oaks is a great race to attend and is a great way to get in the spirit for the Kentucky Derby that is the next day.

The race itself got a little less interesting when super filly Devil May Care opted to run in the Kentucky Derby as opposed to staying with the girls in the Oaks. Fillies can cause some true excitement when they run with the big boys so I wish Devil May Care all the luck in the world in her race on Saturday. (A moment of silence in remembrance of the great Eight Belles.......thank you).

Frankly, your betting dollars will almost certainly bring you more of a return on the other races on Friday’s Churchill Downs card. A race between Devil May Care and Blind Luck would have been a good one but now Blind Luck is a CLEAR favorite in this race with early odds of 6/5. In other words, bet $10 to win on her and get $12 back if she does win. WOW, that’s fun...or not really all that fun if you are a student of race track strategy.

Unfortunately, a look at past performances does justify her being declared the favorite. I look for the odds to tighten up a bit but not too much. Weather does not appear to be much of a factor right now but if that changes then watch the odds change accordingly.

For my part of the action, I am going with:

$2 WPS on #3 (Quiet Temper)
$2 Exacta Box with #3 (Quiet Temper) and #7 (Crisp)

I don’t see much need to put loads of cash down on this one in betting against the favorite. I will throw some nominal money on this and hope for something to hit the board. If anyone has other ideas on this race, let me know.

As always, good luck on your wagers!!!

The favorite, Blind Luck, took this one in a close race. None the less, the favorite won and my thought of betting small against the favorite at least minimized my losses on that race. Blind Luck paid a wopping $4.60 to win. As for my horses picked...they did finish together but I couldn't convince the guy at the betting window that a 7th and 8th place exacta should have a payout!

Thankfully I did better in betting against super horse Rachel Alexandra in the earlier race. In fact, that one paid for my day.
