Jack Tatum passed away today at the young age of 61. I barely remember him in the twilight of his career, but thanks to NFL Films and the NFL Network, I came to respect this guy as a hard hitting football player. I know each who can remember will have their own view on the Stingley play, but from what I see he was a hard nosed player who would occasionally play on the rough side but rarely was a dirty player. Of all the hard hits I've seen him deliver, I think the hardest one was a hit he put on Earl Campbell, although I don't think either guy could be called the winner of that collision. Probably the hardest hit I've seen in any NFL game and well worth seeking out if you can find it. At any rate, he did some good things with charities after his playing career was over and he will be missed. RIP Assassin.

Edit to add: Found a really crappy video of the hit. They start talking about it at the 2:07 mark and show the hit several times. :0

Thanks for the post Clint, sad day in Football! Here's a better quality video for you all LINK

He was a great player, but I doubt there'll be many tears shed in New England.

Doc.

The Assassin, along with George Atkinson and Mel Blount, was part of Chuck Noll's 'criminal element' in football back in the days before quarterbacks wore dresses.

RIP.
