When I bought my humidor, I asked the B&M owner "What size should I get?". Her response resonated, "Get more humidor than you think you need."
Well, a month and half later, my 150-200 count humi is overflowing. I gave a little thought to buying an end table humidor, but decided to instead put a coolerdor together.
I got a little ahead of myself on Wednesday this week as I bought 3 boxes of smokes thinking that it would be fairly easy to find a large cooler. I head to my local Walmart to buy a nice 120 quart cooler that I noticed online for $35. It wasn't there...nothing at Target...nothing at BJ's. It seems like these stores aren't overly interested in stocking such a cumbersome piece during the holiday rush.
I figure this is going to take a few days. I needed humidification, so I bought a pound of beads from Mark at Cigarmony at 4pm on Wednesday. With the holidays upon us, I thought the cooler and beads weren't going to be in my possession until sometime next week.
The cigars arrived yesterday and I hadn't located a home for them yet. Boy is it beautiful when the pieces begin to fall together. I called the closest Walmart Supercenter for the cooler. Yes...120 quarts, slightly different and a little more expensive at $45. SOLD!
I get home with the cooler thinking, I wish I had ordered the beads earlier this week!!! Well, to my surprise, a USPS package was at the house. I paid for standard shipping and the beads had arrived just about 24 hours after ordering them! That's customer service! Thanks Mark!
I'm currently 12 hours into setting up the coolerdor and RH is at 58% on a salt tested hygro with 3 full boxes of smokes and 5 empty boxes. I have a tupperware bowl 1/2 full of distilled water and a sizable humidor sponge. I rehydrated the beads this morning and generally feel good about the progress I've made thus far.
Thanks to the BOTLs/SOTLs here at CigarPass! The threads that I read to help me setup my coolerdor were extremely helpful!
