Hi All,
I have been reading a lot on this site for the last few months and posted an intro a few weeks ago. There is so much great info here, what a great forum. I still have a few things that I either have not been able to find with searches, or have found conflicting info on. Was wondering if the group would mind helping me out...
1. I live in Southern California and it's been HOT here this summer. Finally now it's starting to cool off, but I still have some difficulty keeping the temp of my desk top humi down. I don't really want to run the AC all day long just for my little box of sticks, so I'm looking for an alternative way of keeping it cool. I saw stuff about "blue ice". Are those the square blue freezer things that you put inside a cooler when you go to the beach/picnic? Has anyone tried placing a small one, or just a plastic bag with a couple of cubes INSIDE their desktop humi? I'm thinking I can wrap it in a towel so it doesn't get my gars wet.
2. My local smoke shop owner says I'm overly concerned about the temp. He said unless it gets up to 80F/80RH, there's not really a risk of getting the bugs. I am able to usually keep it under 75 degrees, but when I check the min/max setting on the thermometer/hygrometer, it says it has gotten to 80. This would have only been for a short period, but it still got up there. Also, is keeping the humidity in line more of an art or a science? I just bought a brand new beautiful Siglo 300ct desktop (which is already full--you guys aren't kidding about this addiction stuff), and I am still constantly fucking around with it to keep the humidity around 70. Take the devices out, put them back in, take one out and leave the other in, etc., etc., etc. Am I obsessing or is the local guy right telling me to chill?
3. Is the purpose of a cooler-dor to keep your smokes cool (and humidified), or is it just a good cheap alternative to larger cabinet type humi's? I already am planning my next purchase for this hobby. I'm thinking of a fridge-a-door though, due to the warm SoCal weather.
Thanks all, for your input, and for making this such a great spot on the web.
