So my father was a huge music fan and so in his memory I am going to have a few contests related to some pretty interesting music. The first one is tell me who released this album-

Vision of the Big Two

When was it initially released?

What label was it initially released under?

If you can do that you get a package from me.

Jim

July 22, 1974 recording
bootleg?
Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush

We have a winner, though it would have been much more difficult if the artist and band where not posted. Oh well. BP get me your addy and I will get your prize to you.

Thanks for the contest, Jim! I actually hadn't seen Breedy's post before posting my reply, although you are right--it would have helped. PM on the way!

I will post another contest a bit later in this same thread. Enjoy the day.

Well it goes to show. The internet is fine and dandy, but those guys were making music years before I was born.

I don't agree. The concert was recorded on July 22, 1974 not released then and there was a label name even if it was a bootleg. Neither of those questions were answered.

The actuall initial recording was not released under a label at all. It was recorded during the show. Some copies where recorded privately and later it was released in small quanities and is available now on CD, but the original was not released under a label at all. So AVB I am sorry, but you are incorrect. I have one of the original bootlegs sitting in with my fathers stuff. He kept meticulous notes about each rare recording he had, hx ect. He also has a copy of the 1983 show Return of the Big Two on cassette which might even be more rare than this one. Again a bootleg and some years later released as a CD. I guess we can agree to disagree, but these original recordings where not for release at all under any record label.

Jim

AVB, incorrect? I wouldn't bet money on it. I've only known him to be wrong about one thing in my tenure here at CP. Well, maybe two, but his decision to become an officer probably shouldn't count.

Doc.

I totally agree and I guess I should restate that AVB may be partiall correct and my father is partially correct. I mean no disrespect AVB at all, so please do not take it that way. I am just going off what my father has written and what I verified on a website. That is all. Again I am not trying to disrespect you AVB, in fact I respect you alot and appreciate your love of music.

No hard feeling at all on this end. What I am saying is that every boot that I own has some kind of label it was made under. For example I have Hendrix boots on Nutmeg, Hen, Musicdisc, Ember and Unknown Records to name a few. None of these are "real" companies but they still were listed as the manufacturer and the ones on the label.

You asked about the release date and label. The label maybe can be found but asking for the release date of a bootleg is gonna be tough.

I guess I should have clarified the question a bit then and asked for "intially recorded" rather then released. Sorry guys. I will be more clear next time. :).

The contest winnings came in yesterday, and I just had the chance to open up the box after getting back into town today. Thanks very much, Jim... very nice!
