So, I've been trying to get my box up and running. I wiped her down lightly with a distilled sponge, charged my old Climmax premiere and attaced it to the lid, and placed a shotglass of distilled in the bottom. It has been 4-5 days and the humidity is up at around 70% and holding. My next step is to remove the shotglass and let it continue to sit for a few days to see if it maintains right? If it does I am good to go? If not then what?

Another question also... I know that the humidity will drop once I add my sticks. Should I automatically add more water to the Premiere when I add the sticks? or sould I add them, see what happens and see if the humidity comes back up and then decide if I have to add water or not? Thanks

Sounds like everything is good to go if the humidity stays when the shot glass is removed. The adding of the cigars shouldn't really drop the humidity because ideally the cigars should be around that percentage anyways. Just give it some time to stabilize. If they're completely dry, well.....

If the humidity has been stable then when the shot glass is removed it sound stay that way. If not check the seal of the humidor etc and put the shot glass back in.

1 - Don't get too obsessed with maintaining "perfect" humidity...like I did at first.

2 - Be patient. With your RH @ 70%, I'd go ahead and put your cigars in but for sure, wait several days before you start to even pay attention to the RH. See where the humidity is. See how your sticks smoke. You may find (like a lot of folks) that 70% smokes "wet". You may think it's perfect. Your target RH for your humidor, then, should be based on how you think your sticks are smoking. When you make a change, it will literally take a couple of days for things to equillibrate again. Be patient...

Main thing is to relax and enjoy your humi....

The man is correct, pay attention to the last line!!!!!

I’d say to calibrate your hydrometer…just to give you a idea of where you are at. I did mine and it was +5%...not to bad.
I agree with not getting too obsessed with maintaining "perfect" humidity a little over or under is not going to hurt anything. ;)
