It was an absolutely gorgeous day today in Orange County, so Shant (LA Kings Fan) and I decided that the best way to enjoy it, would be to smoke something we had not had yet. Before I begin the review, though, I would have to say that I cannot thank everyone here at CP enough for the generosity you all show. I only managed to procure these sticks because of you guys, and I really do appreciate it. Getting great cigars is a nice part of being here on CP, but these cigars are pretty bland and boring, if there isn't great people to enjoy them with. To me, the community is worth far more than any number of cigars, thank you guys (and gals, I know there are a few here!).

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming! Shant and I decided that as self proclaimed Tat whores, what better cigars to enjoy after a big meal than something spicy, full flavored, and especially new? So, after having been eyeballing these tasty little morsels in the humidor for several weeks now, it was time to sacrifice them to the fire god.

Pre-Light

Initial inspection revealed a cigar that can be described in one word: oily. This thing is seeping a ton of oil out of its dark, chocolate brown wrapper, so much in fact that to the touch, it almost feels like it leaves behind a bit on the fingers. The texture of the wrapper itself is a wonderful culmination of smooth and toothy, with the appearance of the wrapper being very thick. The foot is nicely bunched, and is mated with a huge, perfect triple seam cap done in the traditional Cuban style. The overall construction of this cigar is superb, and the feel of it is solid, with a heft in the hand that only adds to the image of strength. When squeezed along its length, the tobacco has a slight spring to it, with no hard or soft spots that may indicate draw issues. The smell coming off of the foot of the cigar is a wonderfully earthy tobacco scent.

Burn and Draw

Once clipped, I found a cold draw that had a perfect amount of resistance to it that, once lit, stayed consistent throughout the duration of the smoke. The sheer amount of oily ligero in this cigar provided for an even burn that was so slow, it had me thinking it was going to go out constantly, even if it didn't. The ash left behind was a very, very crumbly salt and pepper colored sort, that had a small amount of tooth in it.

Flavor Profile

The pre-light draw was interesting in that it had little to no discernible flavors, and only left me with a tingling tongue and lips. Once lit, however, I was smacked upside the head with a peppery blast in the nose and mouth that made my eyes water, and almost made me sneeze. After a half inch in, the black pepper taste subsided to a less hostile level, enough to let flavors of a rich tobacco core, earth, leather, and an out of place cocoa flavor. Shant described the cocoa as a bittersweet kind, like that which you use in cooking, and I am inclined to agree with him. The flavors were heavy hitting and full, culminating in a rich, mile long finish that was absolutely delicious.

Overall Impression

I'd have to agree with Pete Johnson when he said that this cigar was blended with the idea in mind that strength for the sake of being strong, does not make for a good cigar. The strength must be complimented by flavors that can actually be detected, and mesh well with the overall smoking experience of the cigar. This cigar did exactly that, and while it is by no means a complex smoke, I have no doubt that after a long nap the tobaccos will meld and mellow in such a way as to reveal a totally different cigar. While very good as it is, this cigar will, I hope, be an utter knockout of a treat later down the road. I can't even imagine the sheer amount of plume this thing might put out with all the oils in it. I have a box of these on order, and now that I have finally smoked one, boy am I glad I pulled the trigger even without knowing. Shant and I took these down to the nub, and after finishing both of us were left with our heads swimming. Whew. :D

Hey, they're not as strong as Pete makes them out to be, but still, a DAMN GOOD SMOKE! :D

Haha, I'm not a freak like you Jon, come on! :D I agree, it wasn't as strong as I thought it would be, but it was still pretty strong. The Cain kicked my ass much more than this thing did, but the flavor is spot on with the T110. I wish I could fast forward ten years and see how this thing tastes then!

Nice review Charles. I guess I'm the only one that detected fungal/forest floor notes in the one I smoked when they first came out.

Very nice review!

This is one of my favorite smokes. I got one of these and some other Tats from a Fiver from Greg and man did they make me a Tat lovaaaa (not a whore:))!

I'm excited about getting my box!

I love these limited release sticks, especially when they turn out as interesting as these. I got a fiver of the first release and immediately wished that I had gotten the box. So when these rolled around, I made sure to reserve a box for me and 2 of my friends.

The only one I'm iffy about is the noella cuartado, it just doesn't seem as special.

mmmm.... a box of T110?!?!?!

The FS forum for those fivers you want to get rid of is just a few threads below this one! :whistling:

Keep an eye on the FS forum after christmas. That's when the next shipment goes out and I'm sure there will be some going up for sale.

My box is staying with me, haha :whistling:

Well, it could be along the lines of the earthy tones. I find it hard for me to describe earthiness in depth, I don't do well at pinpointing those tastes for some reason. I can see where you get those taste from though, now that you mention it.
