My first written taster's notes on a great new cigar i tasted!!
I just had my first Tatuaje robusto yesterday and it was fantastic!!
If none of you have ever heard of this brand, it was rated number 25 in Cigar Afficionado's Best Cigars of the Year issue. Let me tell you...if you find one, buy it and smoke it!
The wrapper is a pretty milk chocolate brown...and very oily. The perfect sheen on it, kinda gets on your fingers. And it looks just like a ISOM. The robusto looks like a PSD#4. (I just drooled on my keyboard..again)
A good long sniff of the foot revealed that beef terriaki / beef jerky that is remennisant of great ISOM tobacco. (At least to me!)
After cutting it...the pre-light draw was just right...not too tight and not too loose. Got a lot of great spicy-sweet flavors out of it.
Easy to light, even with matches, it lit up great and straight and never really got too out of control thoughout the enter time I smoked it. And I usually use a torch to touch my cigars up as I go along.
First thing to hit my tongue was lots of Black pepper...slightly mixed with molasses and oak. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! Exactly like a PSD#4 starts out!!! This lasted until the first inch and then it stared to mellow out a bit and it blended to a molasses-oak-white pepper-and dark chocolate espresso profile. This was how it tasted until it got to the last 1.5 inches. It started to heat up a bit (my fault, running out of time at lunch and sucked on it to hard to try to finish it). But it stayed smooth and rich and flavorful throughout the 45 minutes that I did have to indulge in it. This robusto was med to full bodied and perfectly spicy. Not for mild cigar smokers.
If I had 30 more minutes to bask it all of it's luciousness I would have soaked it all up. But I had to go back to work and leave the Tatuaje robusto smoldering it's little pile of ash, sitting lonely in the smoke shop.
The ash during this cigar was very tight and speckled white and silver. Stayed on for about and inch before I knocked it off (I couldn't risk letting it fall on my suit!) This is highly a recommended cigar.
I have to also say that this is most likely the closest I have ever gotten to to an ISOM that wasn't an ISOM. I love the PSD#4 (hense my referrence to it a couple of times) and this is a very good alternative. Anyone out there with the chance to grab one should...enjoy.

PS - price in So Cal was $11 for the robusto. But that's Cal tobacco tax talking to ya right there!!!!!
