Tar in cigars

I was just wondering, do some cigars have more tar, or whatever that nasty stuff is, in them? I recently smoked one that was almost dripping black liquid after a while (well not exactly, but you get my point :p) and gave a nasty taste. I haven't had many that had so much that is was a problem though.

The age of the tobacco will have an affect on the tar content. I've had Ramon Allones Gigantes that DID have tar dripping from them, after smoking about half of it. Really ruined the experience....

so does the tar factor lessen or worsen with age?

I have never had this experience. Though I've seen it mentioned from time to time it must be pretty rare. I know nicotine content tends to lessen as cigars age but I'm not sure about tar ???

I kinda like it. I know for me there are certain cigars (in my case anejos) that have more than others. The type of cut also affects the formation of tar (the smaller/tighter the draw the more likely tar is to build up near the head).

I've only experienced tar building up at the head of my cigar a few times. In each case I punched instead of cutting so I'll agree with Lumberg that the type of cut must be a big factor. I don't know if this is merely a coincidence but of the probably three times I've ever had this happen, twice it was while smoking a H. Upmann.

Definitely a gross thing to happen.

This didn't happen to be one of those 18" x 66 cigars I've been hearing about is it?
