I never seem to plan far enough ahead to have a camera with me when I smoke something new. Today I had the chance to try the new Pepin blend, the Tabacos Baez. It comes in two sizes: Monarcas, 6 1/2 by 52, and Favoritos, a 5 1/2 by 52 belicoso. It's advertised as a medium blend with a Connecticut-seed wraper.

I'm not sure how long my Favoritos had been on the shelf, but I smoked it minutes after purchase. This one is light in color, similar to the JJ series. The burn was very even all the way to the nub and it never had to retouched. This cigar produced large volumes of smoke with every draw, something I truly enjoy while I sit and relax.

The description as a "medium blend" is spot on. It has great flavor, but none of the beefy ligero blast I notice with the Cuban Classic. This would make a great breakfast cigar and I intend to smoke many more.

Stinki, good review. Sounds like something I need to try.

Edit: Accidentally put my original post in the wrong topic.

nice review, I have smoked 2 of them and I would sum it up in the term of indifferent for me.

Thanks Geoff for the review. I dig most of Pepins blends and will certianly look for this one up here in our B&M's I seem to have a fair share of Bolder/Strong cigars I already like and always am looking for tasty Med. cigars to mix in, and since the JJ series is one I like already these might work out just fine.

Hope all is going well for you out in Cali ...... ohhh and I have yet to find a Vice cop up here who makes me wanna break the law like those down in your neck of the woods ;)

Nice review Geoff. I may head down Corona next weekend to buy some testers. Have the My Father's been released? If so, do you have them? I would love to kill two birds with one stone.

Not yet. I actually purchased the TB from Linda at David's. I have no idea where the heck my shipment is.

I'll be down there Tuesday.

Geoff

Sounds good.

I saw the TB's at David's 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately I didn't know the TB is a Pepin stick. Damn, I feel embarrassed considering I claim to be a Pepin Whore.

If you buy me one I won't tell anybody about your newbness. LOL

Thanks for the heads-up, Geoff.

Did you try that 601 Blue Toro yet? It's amazingly mild for a Pepin but great flavor and body.

Absolutely agree. That maduro is one of the best on the market, IMO.

Let me tell you, I haven't had a cigar that I thought sucked at first and by the end I didn't it want to put it down. This cigar has great potential. If you can get pass the very bland 2-2 1/2 inches, you will be greatly rewarded.

I had one of these a week or so back and it reminded me of the original Cabiguans. I enjoyed it a lot and can't wait to see how it ages a few months.

Just a little bump for Tabacos Baez. I picked up a couple of sampler five packs recently but didn't do a review as I smoked them on the golf course. Geoff's assessment of these still hold. Very tasty, medium bodied without the signature Don Pepin pepper. If you are looking for a complex smoke these are not them. But if you are looking for a good solid smooth smoke I highly recommend them!

Were these the series SF ones by chance?

I've smoked the SF. At the price they're tough to beat for a good, basic cigar.

They were the regular one's. Got them off of Famous in a six-pack sampler, two Belicoso's, two Robusto's and two Churchill's.

These little gems are a great every day cigar that offers all the taste of some of his much pricier works! I can honestly say that I am a fan with about 10 different boxes on hand....Love em!

Old review again, huh.

Since this review, TBs have been released in two other wrappers AND with longfiller. The "H" (Habano) wrapper in my favorite.
