First off, I'm posting this review from my awesome little BlackBerry, because my computers internet is down for the count until the 9th due to a plan change. That being said, I apologize for any gross spelling or grammatical errors in advance. The predictive text on this is awesome, but a word out of left field may slip in here through the course off the review so bear with me.
Unfortunately, no photos as I can't upload them to Photobucket from my phone, so use your imagination!
The backstory to this cigar is that it was gifted to me last year from a very special member from here about a year ago, who may or may not live in Naps and appears as dead to the world. (Thank you Josh.) I was rummaging through my humidor lopkong for a "special smoke" to celebrate a miscreant taking a deal for some serious time for a horrific thing he did to his niece, and came across my TAA 03 set. Much to my dismay, both cigars have the initial stages of mold. I texted CRQuarto, and he urged me to sacrifice them to the Fire Gods on this momentous occasion. I grabbed my bottle of Allagash Dubbel Reserve and headed outside.
I burned the crap out of the foot for a while, to get those tasty moldies off, clipped the cap and went to work. The draw on this is amazing, and the flavor profile is extremely smooth, like butter melting in your mouth! I picked up some cinnamon, definitely a strong wood and earthy taste, with a bit of pepper in the aftertaste.
The burn is a bit off in the first third, but it corrected itself quickly. The ash fell right off, and the draw is perfect. This definitely a very well aged Maximus. The beer has finally warmed up to ambient temperature (approximately 40 degrees farenheit) and is complementing the whole experience nicely.
In the second half I'm picking up hints of coffee, and the spice is getting stronger. For what its worth, if this was a blind review I'd swear this was an Opus from 05 or am earlier year. It just tastes so good. The draw has worked itself even now, and its producing large volumes of amoke.
I think I'm going to go ahead and enjoy the rest of my night in peace, and I am glad I was able to share some of it with the board in the form of a review. I may not have all the fancy cool pictures like Greg or Charlie, but hell nothing beats a damn good cigar and a simple review.
Thanks again for the cigar Josh.
