Recentlly won a box of bolivar robusto en crystal or what ever it is they call their tubos...anyhoot having never had one for longer than 10 minutes before i opened and enjoyed..How do i store these things? Plop em in the humi? leave em in the box and not worry about it?..i mean they are sealed..and dont cringe should i pop em open and let em age?....any help would be greatlly appreciated

Put them in your humi as is. If the tubes are truely sealed air tight you could leave them out.

With my Opus Forbidden X's I opened the tube and let em sit in my humi... Just my 2 cents.

I've heard that tubos have an 'environment' within them to provide the humidity it needs.

But, you never know.

I usually leave them in my humi un-openned.

I say, if you want to control the humidity the cigar gets, open the tube and leave it open in your humi...

I take them out of the tube and put them in the humi. The exterior of the tube can often have a rather chemically smell to it, I don't know if this is a common experience, but this fact because very apparent to me upon opening a display box of Don Thomas tubos.

I wouldn't want to risk any chemically smell mixing in with that wonderful tobacco scent.

I am trying to figure out the same thing right now. But here is my experience so far. I purchased a box of Punch Royal Coronations and stuck them straight into the humi. After enough time to settle I opened a few up and smoked them. Good but not great. Several months later...the same. So I opened the end on five of them to see what would happen. In a matter of a month or so they had settled down considerably and began to taste a great deal better. So now I store all of my tubos with the seal cracked. Still don't understand tubos or what the purpose is, but other than safe carrying, it seems they hinder the maturity of the cigar. Some cigars taste better a bit "younger", so maybe it is a matter of how you want them to taste.

I think it's commonly held that cigars need the breath to age properly, the tube is probably preventing it, I'd recommend just doing away with the tube all together and just keep them around in a cabinet or something if you want to gift the cigar in a tube.

i have the same bolivars, have left them in the tubes, cracked one last night and the cigar was ok.just and fyi

Agreed!

I got a box of 10 bolivar tubos and discard them everytime.Glass or aluminum.I usually do not purchase tubed gars,I have seen too many with mold, most likely because theres no breathing allowed.
All my tubes go in the recycleing can.

:) Well, I have always liked to test this theory and have done it with many ISOM's form RyJ and H. Upman I have also done it with NC's like Dunhill, Avo and H. Upmann. Here is my conclusion:
I prefer marrying my cigars when I have a lot of one kind. I use the same philosophy with cellophane. I remove them from tubes and cello and allow the cigars to rest and age together. For all cigars I just feel it makes them much more consistant and strengthens the overall palette of the cigars being with many of there own kind. It also can change the complexity of the cigar to become more robust with time. Some of this is dependant on the cigar type and manufacturer. I will leave a few in the cello and keep the tubes around for bombs and passes but I do not store in them. Just my 2 cents.

I go to great deal of trouble to provide the proper enviroment for my cigars. So I store mine butt naked in order for them to bask in said enviroment.

Doc.

I also take off the caps and let them rest. I like the fact that they age in their own cedar.
