I'm not going to bet...but I just wanted to respond to this post by exclaiming that I am now officially a Steelers fan. As a life-long resident of the Buffalo NY area naturally I was drawn to the home-town team because after all... they are the home town team! However, all the years of bungling by the owner, who lives in Detroit and couldn't give a rats-ass about Buffalo...and the realization that the players themselves (with the exception of one player on the current roster) are all mercenaries who similarly couldn't give a rats-ass about Buffalo...I've come to the conclusion that it really makes no sense to support a team JUST BECAUSE THEY PLAY FIVE MILES FROM WHERE YOU LIVE!
After the debacle that this season has become (yet again) for the Bills, I set out to find a team that plays hard, has a tradition of excellence, and whose owners and management seem to have it together. IN other words...a team to be proud of regardless of where they play. That search took me to consider a number of teams worthy of my fandom...and ultimately came to the Steelers.
So...call me a fair-weather fan, call me a turncoat, call me a bandwagon jumper, blah blah blah. I don't care. I'm free of the shackles of home-town involuntary servitude and am looking forward to seeing MY Steelers succeed whether they win or lose. So there!
oh...by the way... I insist on the right to change horses again if the Steelers fail to live up to my standards.
