Happy Halloween everyone! I am new to cigars and i happen to notice something strange on the bottom of my humidor yesturday that seem a little conscerning. I pulled my cigars out to try and find one that i wanted to smoke and i noticed what looked like a damp spot on the bottom of the humidor right under the cigars. I have a 72% Boveda Humipack and a digital hygrometer that normally reads between 72-75 %RH. I left the lid open for a lttle while, and i am currently salt testing my gauges. Is this moister or could it be the oils from the cigars? BTW all my cigars are Muduros.

Good question ! I'll let the Fogs get that one. NOw post an intro and fill up that profile buddy!

This has happened to me before and a lot of times it has been from a cigar that visibly has a lot of oily sheen on the wrapper. But like Gary said a photo is always the best option with a question about the way something looks.

72-75 is kind of high...not that it has anything to do with the damp spot but you are more at risk for mold etc

I personally think a 72% RH humidipak is too high. If you use a 69% I think you will wind up in a better range. Of course, maybe you like more humidity in your cigars than I do. I find they burn too hot (JMO). Pictures, as Gary stated are always good.

i smoked a cigar from it yesterday and checked all none felt damp and the cigar burned great.

Hmmm, do you have a picture of how the cigars were stored? Meaning, were they stored left to right across the picture and in conjunction with the stains? It would make sense, that it would be oils from the cigars, but I've never seen that happen before.

I do think your % is too high. I tend to keep mine closer to 65%.

the cigars line up with the stains perfectly, my whole bottom row is a mix of Gurkha Maduros

I know it's been discussed, but there have always been concerns that Gurkha dyes their Maduro leaves.

Just a guess, but maybe the dye or whatever process they use, is actually leaving stains on the bottom or your humidor.

Also, pictured on the lid is another humidifier, is it charged with distilled water too? I believe I see your Boveda pack on the bottom left under the tubo and guillotine cutter.

The boveda pack is the only humidity device at this time, the round disk is a xikar pick that shot my humidity up after only being in there an hour and I let it air out as soon as I saw it how high the humidity had risen no long term levels!

I second this idea. It is probably coming from the Gurkhas. In your original post, you described it as a damp spot. Is the spot still damp to the feel or has it turned into a discoloration?

Sorry if I caused some confusion but when I referred to the spot as damp I didn't mean to the touch it just appeared as damp wood but never felt any moisture

Thanks again for everyone's help
