Finally! I can light up. Got the stitches taken out of my dad gum mouth, and can light 'em up once again WHOOO! So for my first smoke amongst the living again is a beeutiful ISOM. Nice, dark wrapper, as it's a maduro, with a good 5, count 'em, 5 years of rest on them. Full Bloomin boys. Needed a dust rag on this puppy.

Ok, so first things first, a double o' rum sits on the table. I just finished an incredible ribeye, medium rare, with a homemade salad dressing for my salad. Sour Cream & butter on the potato. MMMMMMMM-Mmmmm.

So I dust the little one off and take a big 'ol wiff. Smells of earth and floral type scents. Clips clean, so I take a puff before lighting. mmm, tastes like a combo of things to come..... Then the lighting begins....

Flare and it begins.

First thing that hits me is how menthol-ish this cigar is. Very cool. Very nice. Earthy tones spread throughout, with a bit of spice in there, ever so subtle. This would continue to the half-way point. Here I put her down to take a sip of me rum. Mmmm.

About half way this little whopper decided to switch it up on me. Very powerful spice hit me and actually made me a bit dizzy (I'm still an ISOM beginner, so they always hit me no matter if they're strong or not). The ash on this little beauty is about a good 1.5 inches and is incredible looking. Deep, dark ash, with flecks of white, almost a jaguar with spots. The floral flavor takes a back seat for a bit, but it's still there, floating in the air now, instead of being able to be tasted. The earth tones are the only thing that kept this cigar from being too overpowerful for me. But damn it is good.

When I hit the 3/4 range, it hit me from the right side...completely blindsiding me with the flavor of licorice. That and a huge blast of powerful tobacco. The whole apartment smelled incredible, but the flavor of the cigar itself was so complex, thats the best way I can describe it. Licorice and tobacco. Powerful this one is in the Force. But still, it was a cool smoke. Very nice welcome back for my mouth I think. Coupled with the rum, this thing was a complete party in my mouth, but I was keeping it to myself :p

Now, with this cigar almost done, I continued to smoke it way past the band, to about the size of a pinch of pipe tobacco LOL. But that's where this cigar became what I think is one of my top 5. EVERYTHING came back. Floral, licorice, powerful tobacco, earth tones, it was all there hiding out in the nub. Incredibly hot, incredibly good. My head was spinning at this point and my hand shook as I was writing my notes for this review. I put down the remains, and had to contemplate crumbling up what was left into my pipe and trying to not end it. It was that good.

All in all if I had to give it a number review, I'd say overall a 96 out of 100. Looks were a perfect 100 on this batch. Taste and complexity maybe a 95, only because I'm not an expert, but I want to give it all 100's. No tightness in the roll, was beautifully spongey, prelight was a 90, because it hid some flavors inside. The post light mouth feel was at least a 99 for ME. Left my mouth tingly and strangely clean feeling.

What an incredible cigar. This is from a batch of 1997's. I'd buy a box of 'em in a heartbeat.

So there you go, my comeback smoke. Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did smoking it.

:D

Tony, have you ever considered EASING back into something?

Nice Review bro, and it sounds like quite a cigar for coming out of the gate with. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got one of those SLR PCs in a pass, it was Leebo's put, iirc and I think they were from '98. It sure smells good, now I can't wait to try it.

FT, that box was from 11/98. I went through them like $*@# through a goose! :D

Tony, same cigar I popped my cherry with but it was from 97 instead of 98. I haven't tried one from 98 yet but I can tell you the ones from 97 were as good if not better than any I've had to date.

Nice review and welcome to the darkside..... :sign:

This was from '97. These are also the ones some of you guys will find in the Tone pass that's going out tomorrow.

Lee, I burned that SLR tonight at a crawfish boil (imagine that...a crawfish boil in the Rockies, in August). It was everything I was hoping for. Medium body, nice chocolate and wood flavors and maybe a touch of cayenne pepper....ok, it could have been the crawfish I guess.

No wonder you went through them so fast. :)

Burned one tonight to celebrate my son's Eagle Scout Court of Honor that was held today. Great cigar with that cocoa flavor. Thank you Lee for sending me this one!

Yes. He worked his butt off for it. This was a big week for him. He started college on Monday.

I can still remember the day we brought him home for the first time from the hospital. Time flies.

Cool! My son went down on Friday, we got all of his stuff moved into the dorm, elevator broke and had to carry, tv, fridge up 4 flights of stairs!

Anyhoo, he's having a ball, calls every day!

Glad you guys enjoyed those sticks!
